And for obvious reasons. You'd think a 60-70 year old company which specialises in optics would know a thing or two about cameras. I can't say I've ever seen any pros which don't have a Canon or Nikon in their camera bag.

^ If were going down that route the whole world should be using Leica....
I use Leica Geosystems stuff in the day time and the lens on a Total station is awesome! I can quite clearly make out the moon and craters on it..

Well, okay, Leica too are obviously field experts. I have a Lumix TZ3, and the lens is faultless and excellent in most respects! But, Leica don't do budget. You can't get a Leica Canon 450D equivalent.
Same with SIGMA, Hasselblad, Leaf and Mamiya - no budget option. And I don't even mean budget as in a small bit of money, I mean things like the Canon EOS1Ds MkIII, £6000, if I'm not wrong! I don't think you can find a new Hasselblad for that money, anywhere, ever.

Canon is canon because of their DSLR and SLR cameras, not the point and shoot ones.

It came today, without a UK plug and the manual is in French so this should be fun, build quality is awesome though, just waiting on a memory card for it.

Does it have warranty valid in the UK?

That's the thing i don't exactly know. There is no paperwork with it apart from the French manual, all the accessories are there and everything though.

You're probably best off getting in touch with Canon UK then, to see if the warranty will be honoured.
I assume VAT has been paid on it - normally that causes the biggest problem.
Anyway, did you expect it to be French?

It was bought from Pixmania UK so no and the product page doesn't state anything about a French manual so i have reported it to them and asked for an English manual to be sent. I don't need one and have downloaded one from Canon but it's the principal. If and when i get a reply i'll also be asking about the guarantee, as far as i'm concerned i have the invoice so there shouldn't be a problem. Wish i'd ordered the SD card from them but got that from Amazon which hasn't arrived yet.

Pixmania is a French company with local web sites in many other countries. They were probably selling you an EU product.
Regarding camera products bought in Norway from a EU country; we have issues with the official Nikon importer. We have more generous warranty rules (for the consumer that is) than most EU countries on gadgets like camera and mobile phones. If they are meant to last for 5 years, the seller must pay for repairs within this period. Mobile phones and cameras are of course meant to last for more than 5 years
EU equipment bought in Norway from a direct importer will not be under Norwegian warranty, and must be sent back to the shop for potential repair. The shop will have to send it back where they bought it from and pay for this cost them self. This is often Poland or other very cheap countries, and Norwegian Internet shops can usually not compete with the EU (Pixmania) shops on price. The Norwegian importers have done steps to prevent the parallel import. One of these steps is to charge very much (EUR 50+ plus shipment) for a printed user manual in the local language. The English manual is always available online for free.

That's why then thanks for that information. I've already downloaded the manual which is fine it's more the fact that it clearly states on the website that an English manual will be provided as it's nice to have a hard copy than a PDF. The camera is fantastic though absolutely love it.
