hm...
tricky this one.
I'm kind of confused with the memosry stick situation really guys. I know that the Sony mp3s use the magic Gate for storage, but their cameras and camcorders use the regular MS. Also the MG states that it is for copyrighted material,so (i'm guessing here) what do they mean by copyrighted? Downloaded mp3 to which someone has no legal rights will not play?? I'm lost..
Sorry
I can resist everything except temptation(P800)..

Magicgate og normal...

first of all, I'm not 100% sure about this, but this is how I understand it:

sony has it's own music format that they use in mp3 players and Sony Clie PDA's, called ATRAC3. This is a special music format which holds copyrights. The way it works is, that you can have the ATRAC3 files on your computer, but somehow it "counts" how many times you transfer it to you mp3-man. Each song will have information about how many copys you can hold, this could be like 3 copys. Once you have transfered the song to another unit 3 times, you can't transfer it anymore. But then you can transfer it back to your PC. It's just like a library, if they only have 3 copies of a book, you can't borrow it until someone else returns it.

This copyright system only works with ATRAC3 files and not normal Mp3. In order to get the ATRAC3 copy protection to work, you need to use MagicGate MemorySticks (ATRAC3 files can ONLY be saved on MagicGate). But if you just use normal Mp3 you can use a normal MemoryStick.

And now the important part... as far as I know the MagicGate MemoryStick is just better/more advanced than the normal one. So with a MagicGate I think you can do all the things you can with a normal stick, like use it for digital cameras, PLUS it holds ATRAC3 music. So the only reason to buy a normal MemoryStick instead of the MagicGate stick, is that MagicGAte is a little more expensive, but except for that it should be just like a normal stick (plus the copyright stuff, which you don't need to use). But again, I'm not 100% sure, so please let someone confirm this.
