with s60 you'll only get omap3 as their top performance platform, with WM, we have intel, nvidia, ati, marvell, qualcomm (the 1ghz snapdragon) samsung and omap3 too. android may als0 use the following platform as its similar to WM(android is linux based anyway)so WM is better option for SE imo.http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=157628&start=0] here[/url]

Agree with you... WM is far better than S60 when it comes to hardware components. But what about software... Are there plenty apps for WM and are the older WM apps compatible with the never WM versions? Or they are like UIQ2 and UIQ3???

WM has far more library of apps than s60. add to that the fact that they were also backwards compatible. max and boing could answer you better

Having been a Symbian/UIQ user since P800, due to recent developments (or rather lack of) I got myself an HTC Tytn II. I still find WM not entirely suitable for the mobile platform but the platform more than makes up for all its deficiencies with the huge number of software available for it. The end result is that for most things it is much easier to get things done on WM than on UIQ3 with its limited sw and almost non-existent support.
Perhaps when I have more time I will try to write a review comparing WM and UIQ3 in detail but here are the main items in a nutshell:
- Comparing the P1 (208 MHz) and Tytn II (400 MHz) the speed felt by the user is about the same.
- P1 has a much better battery life
- P1 contacts database structure is actually better than Outlook. In the latter there is no way to have more than 1 mobile number assigned to a contact. Although there are a couple of sw solutions available on WM to tackle this problem.
- WM devices are usually larger.
- I have never had a system restart on WM, so the OS is definitely more stable than UIQ3.
- Customizing a WM device is very easy, you can even change the whole OS in about 10 minutes (eg. install WM 6.1 instead of WM 6.0 or install Android)
- Office applications are native to WM and work perfectly with IE and messaging applications.

I'm still using my P1 because of the FM radio and smaller size but if I ever decide to get another SE in the future, it has to have very good features not available elsewhere.
It will be interesting to see what SE will do to try to regain their advantage that they had for the past 5-6 years with the touch screen+UIQ combination
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD

given SEs recent financials, it would be in SEs interests not to use WM. not least because WM is a poor performer, inefficient, and somewhat glitchy, but because of the high royalty costs of WM. they would be much better off going with s60 or android.

so a big no for the top 2 OS currently available? Its not only about what some die hard UIQ fans and the fact that they cant admit UIQ is dying, the fact is that people prefer WM and S60 over UIQ and the sales figures show that. So it would be in SE's interest to invest in S60

It is still new and unpopular. No one knows how it will work on phones... The best would be using WM until they see how is android doing. If it is ok and users are satisfied, they may switch to it.
