P1i a good phone? |

I agree with nipsen's evaluation of the P1. However, I still stand by my opinion that if the P990 had the same amount of RAM as the P1 and proper support from SE, it would have been the best device on the market. (OK, this part was a little OT, just blowing off some steam )
As far as navigation is concerned, you can connect pretty much any bluetooth GPS and use UIQ3 versions of programs such as Garmin, Sygic Drive and TomTom without any need for an active data connection.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

No, that's completely justified, imo. It's got exactly the same software and hardware capabilities (some different chips), it just came one and a half years earlier than the p1.
..You know, I got to try it earlier in the summer, and it's pretty clever.. I regret everything I've said about sore p990 buyers now.. ..I prefer the p1 keypad - but the lens- cover, and the flip covering part of the screen, the higher edges along the screen. More solid fit with the frame, and so on. The jog- dial is useful - so is the f/o f/c modes. It's.. hard to imagine that SE managed to botch this so badly.
And that they still couldn't care less about optimising the core of the OS for better memory usage when they had the chance a year after the launch.. *shakes head*.
On the other hand, tennis- players do have very nice legs.

If you're a fan of the P series, like me, you'll like the P1i.
Luckily for me, at the time of the P990i release, I was still very contented with my P910i...and didn't feel the need to upgrade so I decided to skip it and waited for the next series which was the P1i.
A very stable phone with good battery life. I was running on day one. I guess that's our advantage being old time P series users. |

Actually it should be good if you are not a fan of P series too.. I mean there are people that never used P series phone. And you will quickly get used to it.

For me P1 is next to perfect phone. SPocket size, battery life, qwerty that allows super fast typing, fantastic multitasking, great software for aditional functionality. I will peacefully wait 2009 for possible change. |

true,
was taking down a note today while on a call, and could take down adress, phone nos etc with so much ease using the notes app
and then save them to address book just by clicking on the number
I realised how useful this smartphone is, just about fits my needs
it would take me a lot of time in the past to do the same on my Nokia N series(not that it was bad)
but this is quicker |

Well you are right. Tell me one good reason why I shouldn't be a fan of P series. These phones are complete. They have everything a mobile phone users would want.

I thought real hard about it and can't think of a good reason...but on the contrary, I thought of so many reasons why you should:-)

No profiles. P1i does not have profiles, and no one has found a way to fake them.
Signd by Symbian is a good reason to avoid a P1i = few applications, and many of them wont install properly
It has lovely bright LEDs but you dont have a way to use them as a torch! (OK, not a reason not to buy it, but very annoying)
Otherwise, its a really great phone.
I will upgrade to the replacement if it has:
same keyboard, better screen, gps, accelerometers, PROFILES.
I wont touch WinCE or any variant thereof ever. |
