@sigea

And hecaro/hikaru? Sounds Greek

I do not know about hecaro, because the Japanese lettering system does not have the letter c

but hikaru is Japanese, for example, the famous Japanese singer called Utada Hikaru.

宇多田 ut ta da ヒカル <- the last three characters here are - hi ヒ ka カ r u ル

In Japanese hikaru can be written, using different Kanji, for a girls name, but the verb- 光る hika 光 ru る means 'to shine'

One of the Shinkansen is called 光 Hikari. This means 'light' in English.

So SO905i is basic slim design and SO905iCS has optical zoom.

Even with optical zoom it looks thin

And what is the N95 to you QVGA? Slim sleek? Don't think so.
Most of the times why the jp phones look weird is because of they're strange colors and sometimes weird design of the housing. That's just how Japanese people like their phone. You can easily change the design of the phone so that it would be more appealing to the European and American customers
If phones like that from japan would be released in the west people definitely would by them because they are multimedia powerhouses and that's the trend nowadays.

N95 is fine in size. its a lot smaller than japanese phones

@QVGA

Which Japanese phones are larger than the N95 again?

Not all of them. Quite a few are a lot slimmer.

I think it's a compromise between price, batery life and features.
if the c905 had vga screen, as planed, it would drain oth the batery in one day. if it had optical zoom, it would be too expensive and to large.
japanese people have a lot more money than we do, so they can aford such phones. and they had to look out for cometitors(samsung), they had to make it cheaper than samsung's 8Mpix phone.
vga screen realy does look better, but for me, better that they saved on screen than on WLAN or GPS.

They're actually quite different......

SO905i is 3.2mp clam, whereas P905i is 5(.1??)mp and can open on 2 axis(normal upwards, and sideways in landscape), like Nokia N92/3, Moto MPX etc......

A nice thought though(I'd love a P905/906)!

sharp 904sh has a 2.4in vga screen, 2x optical zoom, and using CCD sensor and I still was able to get 3-4 days out of it on normal use of calls, sms, and camera use. I would assume on non wifi use and mininal gps use a vga screen c905 would get similar.

actually larger than a 903sh

personally size does not matter to me, and design wise of w900i, s700i, c905i (execpt w880i), I rather have the larger japanese designs vs the euro designs. I guess after using so many japanese phones I really like thair long and large feel to them.

I was at a wedding the other day and got seated with a girl working in the SE acoustics division.

She said protos coming to her for acoustic tweaking was totaly different in quality depending on where they were made.

SEMCJ protos was as good as retail units,
SEMC units was unbelievably bad in quality, almost falling apart.
