of course 8MP is better than 5MP. But that only applies if the quality hasnt reduced in going from 5 to 8. On 8MP you will be able to zoom in more and see more details

if you plan on printing large pics, then yeah, that's when megapixels count. otherwise, 2mp will suffice. and if you're just gonna store it in your phone, even vga's more than enough.

here's a guide i got from T3 mag:

What will those megapixels get you in printing inches?
2.0 = 4x6(standard)
3.0 = 5x7
4.0 = 8x10
5.0 = 9x12(just bigger than A4)
6.0 = 11x14
8.0 = 12x16
10.0 = 16x20
12.0 = 18x24

LOL you know something my 5300 produces some good shots and it doesn't have a flash,

tbh I don't think cameras on mobils are essential anyway,
it costs to much to send mms I send one in a blue moon

My question to everyone is that, is it really worth while going for the 8MP camera phone that s.e and other companies are due to be launching. I am pretty happy with my 5MP k850i handset. I take pics and i send them to other phones and have them displayed on the computer, on sites such as facebook. I never print out pics etc. So for someone who has this type of usage when it comes to taking pics etc, is it really worth while going for the 8mega pixel camera?

Since I am really considering staying with a good 5mega pixel camera phone it does everything i want it to do.

Well you can switch to 8mp when C905 is out on the market.. And then you'll have a good phone that should suit all your needs atm.

It totally depends on user actually what does he want? if you are satisfied with 5mp no issue it's fine but there are many people who wants to upgrade for more resolving power, more facility. Company will try to bring every time something new being a business competetor.

3.2MP CCD? So that's either the Sharp 903 or Samsung a990 or Samsung z710? I only know of these 3 MP camera phones that uses CCD instead CMOS. The Sharp 903 was the first to combine CCD and optical zoom in a camera phone. And probably the last...

The a990 has a CCD sensor. Look at Bill McClung's samples, and PhoneArena's review.
