I went from a P990 to a W960i rather than a P1 as I wanted a proper phone keypad & the Walkman player with 8GB. Prefer it to the P990 & super stable for me with great multi-tasking.

I'm closely wathching the Samsung Omnia for I'm likely to stick with the W960i.

Well W960 is better than P990, but not the P1 too. I don't say it is worse... These 2 phones are the same in my opinion. Now it depends what do you need when buying them. If you need fancy phone for music and multimedia you should go for the W960. If you want phone with better smartphone features and qwerty keyboard you go for the P1. And if you want everything I from a phone, you go for P1 with W960 walkman installed

Yeah... the X1 looks great, but as I said, it focus too much on the qwerty, which I don't use and don't need...

I was a massive fan of "Jot" (the handwriting recognition used by SE in UIQ) on the old P800, when it was the only decent input method, and kept it up on the P910 and M600 after that.

Since moving to the Windows Mobile world last year with a Tytn II, I don't find handwriting quite so pleasant. It's very similar in WM, you have a field at the bottom of the screen rather than using the whole screen but most of the character strokes etc are the same, but, well, it's just not quite as slick and comfortable as Jot, and I certainly make more mistakes. Perhaps that's just because I'm coming from Jot and have bad Jot habits, perhaps not.

It's a shame there is no P successor, but the harsh reality is I think - with the recent news - UIQ is now dead. It would be foolish for any more development to go into the platform when the Symbian Foundation have made it clear the future is a descendant of S60, not UIQ, and of course the redundancies at UIQ rather point that way as well. We may of course get new UIQ phones in the interim, but they'll be based on the same 3.x platform as born in the P990, and as such will continue to fall behind most of the smartphone competition. We won't see a true UIQ flagship again.

For me, WM is the next best swiss-army knife of an OS, but I'm seriously considering something completely different again next time - in the shape of an Iphone.
