Yeah, they could combine the P series with Tytn and rename it Python

Hi all,
I really can't believe that even know some people just don't get it SE is NOT SONY and doesn't have unlimited funds not even close. It is a joint venture owned by Ericsson and Sony and far from pumping lots of money in they keep drawing it out in repayments.
If only SE did have unlimited funding from Sony and Ericsson along with all the support many seem to think Sony provide what a great company SE could indeed be.
As for those figures i think I'll wait for the official ones as some how doubt their accuracy. But if there true I'm sure that would make Mr K a very happy man.
As for these rumors yet again they keep being denied by HTC who have gone from being mainly an supplier to other brands to launching their own. They have done this with great success and can't see what they would gain from allowing them selves to be bought as they sell far more smart phones than SE and already have good brand awareness that is growing so really would have very little if anything to gain at all.
Marc

I have no idea if this rumour is true but it would have little to do with how rich SE is.
If a company buys another company they will of course finance the purchase based on the value of the combined company and efficiency savings. One way of raising the finance is to go to existing shareholders and it may be that Sony & or Ericsson would decide to go that route.

I think Dogmanns comments were in reference to what Se dude said on the 1st page.
If HTC does get bought over by Sony, thats the end of HTC then, the reason HTC are innovative is that they dont carry the baggage of a manufacturer out to get market share, but they're more profit oriented. Like SE was a while ago. Thus they have the resources to do the research, sell only mid-high end products and net themselves quite a bit of profit on each unit sold.

Very true. In SE's case, the shareholders essentially are Sony and Ericsson, and they may well be convinced by SE's management that the additional investment is right for the business at this time. Particularly since smartphones are the one part of the mobile business which are on the up, and which SE don't currently have a big presence in.
Yes, HTC are beginning to build a brand for themselves, but they've had one or two setbacks along the way (try a search for HTC Class Action). Meanwhile they're trying to sell more consumer-oriented handsets like the Touch, and break out of the smartphone niche, which is something SE could certainly help them with.

Well if SE can't beat them then the next best thing would be to own htc... Lol, nokia had almost half the market shares for May, the way i see it, nokia could buy all the phone manufacturers...

aye, but one can imagine the result of windows mobile with improved build quality... until you ponder who would provide the music player... maybe cybershot division would be ok with winmp & walkman phones have a lite version of windows?
nah, maybe not! |

Not logical at all. If SE really has the funds they would have hired competent programmers and product managers. Even to date, the G900 still has residual files left over from the P990 that have absolutely no function on the G900.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

have you considered the possibility that they're deliberately scaling back their investment in UIQ (as evidenced by the ridiculously backwards G900 and Paris) as a precursor to making HTC their new smartphone division? I'm not saying is happening, only that it could...

Anything is possible but my personal opinion is that it doesn't make sense. It's not a good business strategy to deliberately lower the value of a product you actually own.
