Exactly.
What really annoys me about the whole Apple PR thing in regards to the iPhone is the wording they use.
We've been told a thousand times we have to say "Revolutionary Mobile Phone" "Breakthrough Internet Device" and "Amazing iPod" in every conversation we have with customers about the iPhone.
Now me, I took this as complete bullshit and ignored it. Why? Because none of those three statements is correct in any sense.
You know whats more annoying? My deputy manager, the only reason she's 'good' for sales is because she's like a parrot. She repeats everything she's told word for word without actually absorbing what it means. So during staff meetings when the manager asks what the 3 key features of the iPhone are she literally repeats those three things, word for word, as if she's reading them off a packet. I kid you not, with that exact enphasis on the words and everything.
Then the kick, I asked her what those three things mean, ie explain to a customer why it's a revolutionary mobile phone etc, and she couldn't tell me and said things like "it's a revolutionary mobile phone because it has breakthrough internet and it's an amazing ipod". She doesn't even know how an iPod works! Grr.....

say enjoy facebook when you arnt at your computer but they fail to say unless your in a WIFI zone it will slow as hell.
It seems fine on my P990 over 3G... what bugs me about the iPhone adverts is that it's all bollocks.
I've been able to do *all that stuff and more* on my P-series for *years*. |

I dont mind them as much and looking at it from a non-tech point of view. I can see how people get all hyped up.
I dont mind the background song. I do hate the Moby track. So annoying.
Alas i purchased the n95 colleagues and coworkers couldnt understand why i didnt want the iphone. The interface is the only revolutionary aspect imo. Maybe v2 could be better. But even then. Something as simple as no mass storage is a deal breaker. I refuse to use itunes. |

Have you guys actually tried the iphone yet? If not, why don't you just try one out at any Apple store or even the ipod Touch and then you comment...
Personally, I have not tried an iphone yet as it is not officially available in my country. But I have tried the iPod Touch. Personally, the internet experience and the multi-touch on it blew my mind away... my years of experience on my SonyEricsson do not come even close to what multi-touch and mobile internet experience I had on the iPod Touch.
Feature to feature wise, the iphone pales when compare to many 3G phone. But the features it does have IMHO are far superior to existing handsets there are... just like the iPods, they are not as feature-rich as some other MP3 players, but they do what they do best better than anyone else.
Likewise, the iphone reaches new horizon with its multi-touch and internet experience. These 2 features themselves are revolutionary in their own right...

Mate I had tried the iphone, and I have had an ipod touch. Im just saying im sick of the advert and how they try to make things years old seem new. Ok the interface is revolutionary but that was done to death before iphone was even released! I bet when they get a decent camera module they will be saying "capture the moment wherever you are, we re invented the camera"

I play with one almost every day, they drive me mad with boredom.
More to the point, almost 90% of people who buy them are people who, get this, know nothing about technology or phones and don't know (and don't want to know) how to use the iPod aspect of it, the visual voicemail, itunes, videos or even wifi or internet. They want it cause it's cool and they've been brainwashed into thinking its the best phone ever, without actually stopping to examine if it meets their needs.

While some Apple users take this sort of comment as an insult, I do think it's accurate. On one hand I do know people who have looked at the various devices on the market, weighed up the pros and cons of each device and decided an Ipod is the best choice to them which is fair enough.
On the other hand, I think my sister is a more typical Ipod owner - she decided she wanted an Ipod because she wanted an mp3 player, however she didn't know a single feature of the ipod apart from the fact it played music and she had no idea what other mp3 players were out there. I recommended against it as her money tends to be limited (there were cheaper mp3 players that suited her needs better) and I knew her PC didn't meet the requirements for Itunes (older version of Win2k). That didn't matter and she bought it anyway and found she couldn't use it on her PC so that was a journey for me to go and see her and update the PC. The next problem was that she'd ripped her entire music collection in wma's and left the license checkbox ticked which meant Itunes would have none of it. There's been a few other hiccups with the software, the battery dying etc. yet if asked about it, she never mentions any of the problems and always recommends it to others.
I have used the Iphone but it's of absolutely no interest to me due to its limited functionality. I would be amused if Nokia or another phone company made an Iphone style advert but instead pointing out the additional level of functionality, such as being able to edit documents as well as view them, an onboard gps receiver shows your current location rather than just being able to browse maps etc.

The iphone didnīt come to replace the other phones, it just introduced a new interface. Itīs not about the functions, itīs about the implementation. If you care for that or believe it makes a real difference in your daily life get it, otherwise donīt. I was also a skeptical and today I really like my iphone. |
