@Cycovision

I guess installing arabic HWR has ruined the english one.

And i'm comparing it to P800, P900 and P910 .... the problem doesn't seem to me in processing the character.

You know in UIQ2.x when you want to input special characters just like ($,%,^ etc..) you have to write \" l \" from bottom to the top then write whatever you want, you can even draw something (in black ofcourse) on the screen after writting that \" l \".

The problem is when I write any letter in W960 it gives me the same exact thing.

..if you have some sort of problem - think you can check if it goes away after turning off the dictionaries?

(..I thought it was the hwr at first too - but it definitively was the dictionary lookup, that caused the slowdown/loop/pause.)

I have to say I don't use predictive input but if you do, this might be the delay. It has to find the words...

@Nipsen
Thanks for the tip, and I've already tried this, I hate all kinds of prdective input.

@andresubayon
I want to delete it not just replace it, I will try to delete it when I have the phone back.
Please, if you were able to delete it, pass me the way of doing it.

After using UIQ since the P800 I've become expert at Jot and much quicker than keyboard entry.

Have had all the SE UIQ devices except the P1i, now having the W960i. I can say that the W960i is just as good if not better than on the others so would imagine the P1i will be the same.

Any hints on becoming better at jot'ing? I find the W960 to be somewhat dodgy sometimes, but I haven't been able to reproduce exact steps yet and it still might be my inexperience.
Did you just learn jot'ing from the cheat sheet and alot of practice or did you learn some neat shortcuts and foolproof ways of jot'ing characters?
I'm having hell on earth with "едц,;:-" so far.

Refer to the manual as it describes several alterate ways for writing chars and accents.

On some symbols it helps if you draw a straight down->up line and then draw the symbol next to it. Ex for "*" write "|*"

..and with the accents, you need to write the letter as usual below the triangle - and then add the accent or the circle over the triangle.. (Guess how long I tried before looking in the help->handwriting recognition ). But(!) you can't add accents to letters written on the keyboard, by adding a line on the view- screen.

@steuart5: ..so that didn't help. I guess it means it should be the hwr module after all.

Dear all

I previously had the P910 and just bought the P1 2 weeks ago. I have to say that the P1 is so much slower is recgnizing handwriting. On the P910, I could just write non stop and the phone can catch up. On the P1, I have to write one alphabet at a time and even then wait for it the alphabet to appear before going on to the next alphabet.

Anyone else had this problem? Any solutions? Please help, thanks in advance. Btw I have disabled teh dictionary function but the problem remains.

P/S: Just to clarify, I'm not looking to write cursive writing but just for the phone to allow me to write without stopping and waiting for every single alphabet.

I really don't have a problem with handwrite recognition (and I am a P user since 2004) but I thing the problems come from the predictive texts. Turn it off and it'll be quick enough.

Nitro, thanks for your reply. Yes indeed I have turned off the next word function but the problem remains. Do you also have to write and wait for every single alphabet to appear before writing the next alphabet?

Any help appreciated.

..not sure if there's anything else to try except a reflash..

..maybe there's some sort of maintenance component that causes the lock- ups. Some sort of race- condition. Could be that, when having two dictionaries, and regular disk- access and so on.. Or maybe there's another component running in the background that's interfering? ..I'd wipe the mem- stick too, I think, just to be sure. There are some programs you don't see on the task- list that check for files on the mem- stick. And if those won't complete, then things could slow down (because it's probably some sort of list going around in the background, with the background component lookups).

I think I may have found a solution to this problem. Go to Control Panel - Device - Text Input - Handwriting - More - Setup - adjust recognition speed to maximum. This fatsens the recognition of alphabets significantly though it still is not as good as my experience with the P910. Oh well something is better than nothing!

Thanks everyone
