As you can connect under the DefaultWIFI account you neednt worry about what type of signal you have, if it was G only you wouldn't be able to do this.

To create the account do a scan first and then make a not of the network name, then use this to manually create a new account. Leave most of the settings at their defaults to start with and see if you can connect OK. If you can then try adding encryption and see how you go.

If you get problems with connections dropping out then turn off power save (in the advanced settings). Bear in mind that the range isn't great and don't expect the same speeds you get from a desktop or laptop computer. WLan is limited to 11mbits a sec but should be more than fast enough to run pretty quick on your p1.

If you have problems with web browsing (it connects to the router but then won't browse the web) first make sure you add your wlan account to the internet group, if this doesn't help then try opening the router status page by browsing to its IP address in the web browser. If this works then you may need to manually specify the DNS servers.

I don't think you'll need to do this as you have sucessfully connected and browsed using the DefaultWiFi account.

Easiest way is to type "ipconfig /all" in a windows dos prompt. You should be able to see the router IP from the default gateway of your wlan connection.

This is the normal method of finding the ip address, but with the Arris cable modem which seems to be controlling the router you cannot get to the settings in router using the ip address shown. I need a procedure to access the ip address and settings of the router. I need to adjust the router settings so that I am able to browse on the wireless network with the SE p1i. The problem may also be linked to the Opera browser. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Er ok now getting back to my original thread before nor246ron hijacked it

I can now connect without any encryption or just WEP but still not with WPA, this seems to be the problem, but is it a router or phone issue?

To browse, after entering the Passphase of your WiFi and got connected, go back to Main Menu and tap the Web icon.

To determine if your using Wifi, configure the Wifi as your priority:
Go to WLAN menu, tap More, select Internet Accounts, go to Groups folder, edit Internet, then select your Wifi network as first connection priority.

Hope this helps.

Tried all these suggestions but nothing happens at all.

no encryption and WEP work just fine but the problem seems to be when WPA is used.

I am having this very same problem!... I can connect P1i to my router non-encrypted or WEP, but not WPA.

Now here's some interesting facts/history:
- Since getting P1i in Oct I've connected successfully to router using WPA with no problems loads of times.
- 2 days ago, I upgraded router (Netgear DG834GT) firmware to latest v1.02.13, and yesterday changed Broadband provider (to 02), and last night reset-up all config on router.
- Everything else I have (notebook WiFi card, PSP and even my old P990i) can all connect to router after these changes without having to change any of their settings.
- BUT, my P1i just refuses to connect no matter what I try (and believe me I tried pretty much every setting last night for 3 hours!!... router firmware downgrade, P1i settings, etc).

This is driving me nuts... why does all alse (even my trusty old P990i) work seamlessly, but the P1i doesn't?

(p.s. I believe my P1i is O2 latest firmware - CDA 162024/9 R12A - but that shouldn't be problem since managed WPA connect before).

Anybody got any advice?

Thats interesting to know, do you still connect to your router but just cant browse like me or cant you connect at all?

With me it says ive connected but when i try to browse i get ' Could not locate remote server'

Phoned Sony they said upgrade firmware( i had latest but did it anyway) and no joy, phoned bebox router and they said seeing as i can connect with no encryption and WEP then its not there fault!

I just havent a clue whats going on

Can't connect at all (well using WPA... can connect if unsecured or WEP).

I go to Connections; Wireless LAN; enable WLAN; scan (my router SSID appears); click connect... then egg-timer for a while, then "Connection Failed" message.... EVERY TIME

Aargh!!

Why did P1i connect 2 days ago / not now? Why does all other devices connect effortlessly?

HAS to be router WPA config change? Thing is I can't go all way back to original ship firmware since new Broadband provider needs upgraded firmware on router!!

Guess if I really want to connect P1i, I'll have to revert to WEP / change all other devices to use WEP as well. Not good!

The connection manager profiles your ip- address, I think. Have you tried deleting the account, and adding it through the wizard again?

Last night I did try using a brand new account (keeping old aside)... when scan/connect, the P1i asked which of the 2 accounts aligned to SSID I wanted... but, the new account didn't work/was no different to existing account.

Next then I will try deleting original account and creating new WPA connect from scratch for the SSID. If fails, then I will try usual first unsecure/no MAC filtering, etc... then switch on WPA/MAC filtering.

I do love the P1i, but this waste (hours!) of my time is really pushing me to the limit!

RESULT AT LAST!

This afternoon I upgraded P1i firmware to latest (for O2)... and phone connected to my router with WPA first time thereafter!

So, would appear the there was a problem with the old O2 P1i firmware vs. my router?

Anyway, appears to be sorted now.
