So if i bought an iPhone in an apple shop, it would come with an o2 sim card inside? Then to get the contract you activate it in iTunes and sign up there and not in a shop?

Any news on unlocking the iphone?
iphoneunlockuk have got the 1st bit sorted (to make it work like an ipod touch) and the rest of the phones functions (call and text) will be unlocked later on in the week via the phone.
Dont really wanna pay them, would rather find a free way online lol |

Ah, so it is infact unlockable just no phone functions yet. Just have to find a free way of doing. |

This was posted up in the other Iphone thread...Im considering buying one only if I can use it on other networks. I spoke to the someone in the o2 store, he said to me to avoid unlocked versions as you lose some of the features such as video voicemail! Apple also bring out updates automatically on the phone as they do with the Ipods. This feature can be turned off so it stops updating the firmware, however if it is done a number of times the phone could be locked and "unusable".

Its nearly been a week and still no hack? Im only going to get the iphone if i can get around the contract, and as i can get a cheap one from o2 all im waiting for is the unlock solution.
@Superluminova i know you already have your iphone have you managed to do anything with it apart from use it as a paper weight? |

i unlocked mine to o2 pay and go, mine is a one purchase from o2 store. |

How did u do that? I will also be getting mine form the o2 store. Once you unlock it to pay and go can i then just put my current o2 sim card in it? |

yes but only o2, however if u getting pay and go edge doesnt work, however monthly does. u need to jailbreak and upload a lockdown file. |

So once unlocked i can put any o2 sim in it? and only on o2 contract will EDGE work?
Where did you find the info on how to unlock it?
Have you conected it to itunes since you unlocked it?
and can i still tranfer music and everything else from my mac onto my iphone if i havnt activated it?

iPhones which came out of the box at 1.1.2 (e.g. the UK iPhone) cannot immediately be unlocked with current tools. If you had a previous version of the iPhone and UPDATED to 1.1.2 however, then we can unlock your iPhone immediately.
We are working on finding a backdoor into the 4.x bootloader which comes with out of the box 1.1.2 iPhones (previous iPhones came with 3.9 bootlader) This is not trivial, and all the current unlocking methods (not just from us, but from other companies and websites) relied on the backdoor in the version 3.9 bootloader."
Which means they admit that they cant unlock a UK iphone, and claim that no other website/method can.
Does this mean no hope in unocking a UK iphone, i hope not lol |

i purchase from http://www.iphoneunlockuk.com/? but it was a waste of £39.99 they cannot even do it yet.
however the guide is in the hackotosh forums and its free, yeh it work with my o2 online pay and go sim gprs works but not edge as thats only on monthly contracts.
yeh itunes sync still works.
