That lens cover looks good, but I would probably end up losing it.

I had the same problem with my old w800i lens and I simply strip the coating off and still have the same excellent picture quality. I have no idea what it is for though.

BTW my sister's w810i is having the same problem too.

Cheers for that info, so I know now many (all) w810i are scratch sensitive.
The purple coating has a function though.
The coating works as a filter for the lens.
Till now I couldn't find a repaircentre that has the replacementpart.
I'm working on it and I keep you guys informed

I will ask a servicecenter for help. I keep you all informed about the results. It is just done (scratches) by using this tissue as aksd had the same with his lens after using them.
As protection I bought this cover over ebay, a cameracover for W810i, it works perfect! (I hope that the repaircentre can fix my lens )

I found a repaircentre that can order the sparepart.
When it has arrived, they contact me and I will send my phone to them for the repair.
I'll keep you all informed about it

@bezzz:

just some questions about this "filter":

what exactly does it filter?
would removing it affect the quality of photos taken? if so, what are these effects?
would it "permanently" damage the lens?

i'm really curious on why this filter is in there serving its unique purpose while at the same gets easily damaged itself even in the hands of the most anal owner...

thanks in advance, mate! cheers!

I have used them for about a year and mine has not one scratch on it, but they tend to break really easily.... I broke down and am putting the K750i back on my phone to protect the lens

@aldrinus, it has a function and it's better to leave it on, it's explained in an
"easy" way here: http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-166.html

(@sinnersaint, yes of course )
