Errrr.... Why not use CorePlayer? You dont need to convert/encode your movies. As long as it CorePlayer supports it, it can be played. I have used it on my P990 since it was released and very happy with it. It's the most sophisticated media player for any mobile platform so far... IMHO...

What would be the best program on the Mac platform for conversion of DVD to P1i? Anyone? |

Google for videora, i think that the p1 should be able to play the MP4 output from it. You will still need to find a program to decrypt any DVDs you want to convert, however. |

I've just been using M3 - it seems to work really well - but the file sizes are quite large. I am using the UIQ3safe setting for my P1i - the quality is excellent - but i think I may be overdoing it. Some of the movie clips double in size when processed - on average they are probably halved in size...
What does anyone else use?
Cheers

arvinlad, if you get bigger files than the original is because you are using a bigger conversion bitrate than the source file has...m3 lets you check the source file video and sound bitrate, so before conversion be sure to adjust the settings manually on the video tab so that the converted file has at least the exact same sound and video bitrate of the original, but never higher |

Hi there,
I'm new to this video encoding, i found some freeware software so i plan to use that but can anyone give me some tips on the encoding settings best suited for the p1 and also what file format is best to use on the small screen.
I know 3gp runs on the preinstalled media player but its quality is not that great. So any advice would be great, thanks! |

Well I've spent 3hrs reading every post in all threads about M3, have tried to understand its bugs and workarounds, advice on installing etc. End result one dvd successfully converted (Everybody Stares) and complete failure (Casin Royale) immediately after despite repeated attempts - as reported by others all starts well then it suddenly stops and all that shows in the output folders is a 1.5mb file of the MGM and Columbia 'opening credits' 30secs worth. Very frustrating given the obvious quality of the end product....
... Mysh was so thorough in his approach and commited to M3's development; I wonder what happened?

Well, this is just a guess from another freeware author. If you publish a really popular freeware program, you can initially enjoy all the positive feedback. After all, everyone likes getting something for free But then you get flooded with support questions like: "I tried to my DVD/downloaded movie/video clip using your software and it didn't work. Any ideas why?". I've personally answered, well, thousands of such questions over the years for my software. It's very time-consuming, and often repetitive. It's one thing if you are getting paid. It's another thing if you aren't. My guess is that Mysh had other things he wanted to do with his time
(edited to add) BTW, this isn't a 'knock' on people asking for help. Far from it. Just saying that authors have to be very committed to provide ongoing free support for free software. Most authors like to use that time for developing ...
Best regards,
Malcolm
