So what about you ? You get your SE HSDPA phone in approx 1 month or so. What is the problem with that (the few that really need it today, probably already have their Nokias, Samsungs or whatever) ?

I know there was a gap between the introduction of 3G networks and handsets supporting it for a period (at leats the number of phones was really lousy from all manufacturers and the operators complained) as it has been for HSDPA.

I believe the first 3.6 Mbps network was demonstrated in Feb 2006 at the 3GSM trade fair (at least for Europe). Approxemately same time Samsung showed what was claimed to be the first 3.6 Mbps handet in the world.

Not sure what HSDPA version that may have existed prior that.

Ericson mobile platform product upon which SE phones are based on supports 3.6 Mbps and higher HSDPA. Nothing below that speed.

What about it. How many networks or handsets supports 7.2 Mbps ?

Not sure what you mean. They have smartphones with WIFI. Are you looking for SE dumb phones with WIFI ?

Well, if there are few users, then there is no money to make. First comes the networks, then PC cards and last handsets. I mean, even today, its not like there is a homungus amount of HSDPA phones available (the number has just started to increase during this year).

1 month is fine, maybe 3 months for us in SA. Why not sooner is what Im asking, to lead you need to be first.... Its sort of standard now as most high end phones will have HSDPA.

I agree the phones were rather bad, but so was all the the manufacturers, yet they still were the first to launch them.

HSDPA introduced phones are very good, nothing like the 3G intro.

HSDPA is 1.8MBs thats was stage one, thats what we have for 2 years now.

Well ofcourse now, technology has moved on, SE never released a HSDPA phone at 1.8Mbs
Its like if BMW didnt release the new M3 with a 4litre, 4 litres the new standard.

They cant release it with old technology can they???

I would get the K850 around Dec/Jan.... In one year I estimate our networks will be upgraded to 7.2Mbs

It would benefit alot of users alot especially for handsets like the K800/K850, the N80 and N95 has it. Its usefull especially for bussiness.

True. So se waited for Nokio to make the first move?? Hardly a leader in technology.

SE is basing their products on platforms from EMP. EMPs firs HSDPA platform U300 was completed around mid 2006. Then it takes around 9 month to complete a new phone based on the new platform and yet a couple of months for the production line to work and the phones to get delivered to the stores.

Its not about being the leader, its about finding busines cases to make profit from. The busines cases can look very different for a giant like Nokia and a small player like SE.

EMP decided long ago to skip 1.8 Mbps HSDPA and move on directly onto 3.6 Mbps since not many operators wanted to invest in 1.8 Mbps networks to begin with it appears (no one in Europe that I know of).

3 here in Sweden have already upgraded their to 7.2 Mbps, but they are only selling PC cards for that speed (no phones).

EMP just recently released their new platform U335 with among other things 7.2 Mbps HSDPA. They estimate that the first mobile phones based on this new platform will start selling in second half of 2008 (approx. one year from now).

K800 and K850 are dumbphones, not smartphones like N80 and N95. I have never seen a doumbphone with WIFI support and I'm not convinced this will ever happen. You should compare N80 and N95 with P990, P1, W960 etc.

Once again, SE could care less who's first or last with a certain peace of technology as long as they make a good profit. I don't believe Nokia either has set its goal to be a technology leader. As SE they make what they believe is what the consumers want and sometimes that may include a peace of new technology not seen before.

Nice chatting with you by the way.
