Mmmm well I wannna buy a 4gb M2 for my S500 that I'm gonna get in a few days, but some people have mentioned about a 4gb M2 slowing down seek times on their phones.

Is that true? 'Cause I know for a phone like my W900, even a Sandisk Ultra II 4gb Memory Stick Pro Duo, it slowed down seek times in the tracks for the walkman and file browser.
My friend said that for the 4gb in his W810, the only thing that happened was taking a long time to load the 4gb everytime you put it back in, and after going through the file browser once, it'll be normal speed again.

Basically, will a 4gb M2 slow down my soon-to-be S500? If so, by how much?

No link as its not been offically announced. You'll just have to trust me Although 8GB cards won't be far away after 6GB.

That doesn't make sense. Why make a 6gb if its going to be quickly followed by the 8gb?

Isn't there a doubling rule like with RAM? 2->4 ->8->16->32->64->128->256->512->1g->2g->4g->8g? 6g doesn't make sense IMO.

My 4Gb M2 hasn't slowed down my P990i - not sure if it would affect your 'phone.

No. It used to be but it was a convention only. I guess the memory makers are finally seeing sense. There is no point in going up in double values. I don't know. We've seen 6GB microSD HC cards already.

I don't really know the reasons why, just that it is happening.

and I guess the manufacturers will get more money by releasing "interim" memory sizes as some people will update more frequently since we all want as much memory as we can get our hands on!

Did your 4gb M2 stick come with a Pro Duo adapter?

Yes the next size coming soon will be the 8GB M2, why would anyone think that the size of the card would affect the speed of the phones functionality.

When phones start getting capacities in the teens then i will be a happy customer.

Yeah, it wouldn't go to 6gb; but even so, an 8gb M2 hasn't been announced yet, so don't get your hopes too high as of yet, though I can expect them coming at the beginning of next year.

And for that second question, because it takes more time for your phone to read and identify your memory card. Even if you used a high speed card; like a 4gb Pro Duo Ultra II, only certain devices can utilize it's full speed, like professional cameras. For phones, it takes longer to identify it as it's processing speed isn't as powerful; like for older phones, using a 4gb Pro Duo (regardless of it being Ultra II or not) would make the phone lag alittle and make it a tad bit more sluggish when in the menu, saving pictures, and browsing through your tracks or file manager. I should know, I have a 4gb Ultra II.

But most of the more recent phones have been able to take larger capacity sticks without much hassle or lag.
