Hi Masseur,
I'm still waiting to see what processor and Ram the Tosh comes with and have been a fan of the Moto Q since it was announced just very interested to see just how good the Q9 actually is in the flesh and how it performs.

I can see how the Q9 would be of interest to E61 users but I'm sorry, its just too big for me.

For Vodafone (UK) HSPDA coverage try

You need to tick 3G Broadband if I remember correctly.

Improvements of HSDPA over standard UMTS is not just more bandwidth, it is also a drastic reduced round trip time (rtt) for data packets. With normal UMTS you have a rtt between 100 and 200ms (thats at least what I saw with my colleagues laptop), while with HSDPA you have a much lower rtt. Now when you want to use voice over ip (or remote desktop , or ssh etc), this is a big difference...
"As well as improved data rates that are associated with HSDPA one of the key benefits that are seen is the reduction on latency, improving the round trip time for applications." (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hsdpa)

one question i have with HSDPA is, is it supposed to be more power efficient than standard 3G? the reason i ask is because if you look at the specs of the Z750, the talk time/standby time in UMTS mode is 3:30/350hrs.
for HSDPA/EDGE/GSM it is 9 hrs/400 hrs. hmmm... |

Well, my understanding that 3.5G HSDPA is hardware compatible with plain 3G on the network site. All of current plain 3G infrastructure can be upgraded to HSDPA with small fuss. My network here is going to HSDPA on the selected area (business area) while others is still plain 3G. But they are planning to upgrade to full HSDPA for our city (country capital city).
I also don't understand why SE can't just build HSDPA on their newer phone since Z750i already scheduled to have that. My next phone will have to have HSDPA but I am quite patient to wait for SE.
Maybe it has something to do with the survey they are taking (on SEUS). It has option like - do you want new tech at all cost, and would you pay more for new technology, etc. Seems that SE may think HSDPA is not yet mature and globally available.
But one thing for sure that most of old 3G will upgrade to 3.5G HSDPA for sure (it is cheaper to upgrade 3.5G (HSDPA) from 3G than from 2G to 3G). And those who are still have 2G infrastructure will definately move to 3.5G directly bypassing 3G. SE need to build more HSDPA phone before it is too late. |

talking specifically about hsdpa, I wonder how many really need/use that extra speed? I've had HSDPA since mid last year but can honestly say the only time I've really needed it is via my laptop
the little streaming I have done has generally been pretty good good when streaming content designed for the mobile phone screen resolutions where bandwidth does not need to be excessive
perhaps when we have VGA+ screens watching movies over 3G then it might become an important feature
It's not about the phone but about how you use it.i use my phones my v3x and n95 as my primary internet connections for my pcs at home and anywhere else that i'd need it so it's so much more convenient to have broadband without cables...hsdpa is a neat feature so much faster than edge and even 3g.

yeah, at the moment Z750 is the only HSDPA handset, but if rumours are true SE will announce soon more phones with HSDPA support (Shinobu, Sofia) |

Well, aside from Z750 there are only hints of HSDPA phones coming up, I'm just not cool with the fact that not only SE is not leading anymore in terms of mobile technology, they're trailing miles behind because while the competitors are already putting their HSDPA capable phones on the shelves, this is the best SE has to offer. Whatever happened to robustness and originality like when Ericsson came up with the first camera capable-phone when paired with the MCA-10 communicam? Eventhough it could only produce monochrome pictures mainly for wallpaper use, it tickled our imagination paving way to today's onboard 5mp camera phones. And not forgetting the revolutionary HPM-10, which catalyzed music on mobile phones profoundly. Now they're just stuck with selling brand names which is quite a shame really, given what they once were- inventive and innovative. I really hope people from SE would read this thread, and let me make a point loud and clear, NO HSDPA is a NO GO for me, and if they keep this trend, they're gonna lose their high end-phone users in between the technological vacuum they're creating.
