Well in all the years I have been trading phones I must admit I have never heard of anyone doing that.

By the way, if there is a mod reading this I totally hate the new way a quote is shown in a post now. I am having to put lines top and bottom just to make some sense of it.

In addition to a " compensation " fund, wouldn't it be good if an escrow service was offered where you send phones to a VERY trusted forum middle man, they check it over if necessary and when they receive either funds or the other phone from another member, then change hands?

but what makes a person VERY trusted? Rookwise has +26 -0 feedback so I would consider him very trusted but that doens't mean a very trusted person wouldn't go off with the money and the phone!

I've just once again performed such a service for a couple of members here but even I'm not sure I would want the responsibility of this all the time though I am glad to help out in difficult circumstances

and its a lot of work for one person isnt it?

What in the world is going on around here?
I wonder by forcing or asking sellers to take pictures which are time and date stamped with the phone on with a sim card inserted and also a picture of the imei number of the phone will help to solve things.
That way if the network name displays in standby mode that would mean the phone isnt barred and if when the phone is delivered it is barred the imei number would prove whether it was the same phone or not.

I agree with Masseur.

if somebodys done wrong by this then they should sort it out amongst themselves it's not for other members to come in and accuse the person who sold the handset or whatever.

I once had this nasty piece of work buy a iPod mini of me from eBay,
2 days after he got it he broke it and demanded his money back,

personally I did a long dispute via PayPal and they agreed this guy broke it... he put another charger from something else and broke it this wasn't my fault, it's the idiot who is lazy to use the correct charger nuff said!

I disagree, its just like posting a news item in an off-topic section about a criminal. We are free to give our comments and we should encourage people to detail the manner in which they have been scammed. It serves as a warning for everyone who partakes in this BST section.

Not to mention, usually nothing gets sorted out between someone who has been scammed and a thief as a thief is usually MIA. I have been scammed before and know people who have been scammed and the scammer is the hardest person to reach once a deal has gone bad.

What has your Ipod that you sold on Ebay got to do with a phone being blocked that has been sold on here? .. its a totally different thing.
We are supposed to have a decent seller network here who, at the end of the day should be standing by their feedback rating and buyer .. if they sell a phone that later gets blocked then THEY should sort it out.
Doctorwa says he has been trying to get hold of him for THREE weeks and he has been posting on here in that time .. seems strange to me that he can find the time inbetween moving house to post on other topics in the forum but not answer any messages about this phone.

As for Masseur saying: "if somebodys done wrong by this then they should sort it out amongst themselves it's not for other members to come in and accuse the person who sold the handset" .. I certainly didn't read his comment like that, infact I notice he is usually very carefully to put some distance between himself and any sale problems on the forum, which I would presume is correct as he is a mod here and shouldn't be taking sides as such.

My apologies to Rookwise if any of this turns out to be untrue by the way, my comments are directed at every other member here just as much as him .. hopefully it will get sorted in a decent manner.

Rookwise (Andy) is a very RESPECTED member here . . . we've exchanged some nice gifts back then . . . if he has a BAD intention of selling a BLOCKED fone . . . I guess he will not be doing it here perhaps in Ebay or somewhere ELSE where the only DEAL is to SELL and NO Forums or what . . . but giving the benefit of the DOUBT here, UNLIKE in the cas of Topscooby where HE was NOT the original owner of the Nokia 8880 sold to Mike P. then . . . I guess the W850i here is directly being OWNED (first hand) by - Rookwise That's another case/issue . . .

I just hope that Rookwise will REDEEM his innocence here and REPLY to the author's - accusation !

All is well that ENDS, well as they say ! [addsig]

Hi all,

Firstly this is very different from Mike and Scoobys thing, Rookwise claimed to of got this brand new from 02 so he is the original owner. Doctorwa has been told directly by 02 this phone has been reported lost/stolen and barred. To do this you have to go into a Police Station and get a Crime Reference number, last time i was in a Police Station they have signs all over it telling people reporting a phone lost/ stolen that isn't is a crime if you intend to claim insurance.

The fact is Rookwise has failed to respond in a reasonable amount of time at all never mind with a solution. If Doctorwa has evidence of his purchase and reports this matter to the Police Rookwise risks getting nicked. Is this really the state of trading on the Forum now, members to get deals resolved will have to resort to getting other members nicked. If so sad times indeed.

you don't have to report it to get it barred..

and even if you have "lost" your phone it can be barred..

i've had my phone barred lots of time due to me "loosing" it..

cheifly round my house, and we all know that it's impossible to loose something in your house, you merely misplace it.

but that aside there are means of getting a phone barred wihout reporting it to the Police.

Hi Fatreg,

agreed but not to come back with a report from 02 that says lost or stolen.
