The low volume problem is probably a result of the EU restrictions on sound itensity, therefore a possible solution would be to flash the firmware to that of a non european country like an american firmware version or something |

actually that's not the solution as I have a generic world fw and there is the same volume level on my phone if compared to the ones with other fws.
BTW, w850i (even with eu-limitations) is much louder than w950i.

The MSI FS310 has a 3.5mm jack, you could have clicked my linky to read all about it.
Max volume is way louder than my ears are willing to handle and bass improvement is amazing compared to the same headphones via HPM-82. You can hang it from your neck or put it in your shirt pocket, unfortunately you cannot clip it to your cloth. It's quite cheap for about €40 in Germany and Austria.
As an alternative you could also get this one, but I have not tried it.
Just make sure that your bluetooth stereo headset supports v2.0 +edr to achieve the best possible sound!

I went out yesterday with my HBH-DS970. I Didn't have enough time to charge it, and the display showed that the battery is nearly full. 5 minutes later, the battery was empty... :I

The same thing happens to me.. I think is the only bug DS970 has.. I charge at the end of the day and is always alive when I need it..
I think that DS970 uses the CX300 Sennheiser earphones.. They look the same and they have exactly the same specifications..

You are giving a hell of interesting info here mate..
It looks like the MSI FS310 has an intergrated amp inside or something like that.. can you describe, for the W950i user to know, how many clicks the volume is getting with the MSI FS310? I think would be a valuable info.. Along with some loud earphones, maybe is the volume sollution for a lot of us!! |

First of all, EVERY A2DP capable headset has an intergrated amp, because the audio files are streamed to it and then get decoded and amplified inside the headset. So the output depends on the quality of the headset's DAP and amplifier. Moreover, not only the ohms but also the sensitivity of the headphones are responsible for the resulting output sound pressure.
I retested my Sony MDR-EX 90 (16ohms, sensitivity 106dB/mW) and Audio-Technica ATH-CK7 (16ohms, sensitivity 104dB/mW) wired to the HPM-82. There are 16 volume steps on the w950i. Both earphones play reasonably loud on step 14, but on 15 and 16 the sound becomes slightly distorted. Bass is ok, but nothing special. On the FS310 there are only 12 volume steps. In my subjective perception step 10 on the FS310 is about as loud as 15 wired, but without noticable distortion. Step 11 on the FS310 might compare to 16 wired, still without noticable distortion. Step 12 on the FS310 is even louder, but seems to introduce distortion - I'm not sure, because it's already too loud for me to listen closely. Bass is definitively punchier with the FS310 and adding to the overall perception of louder volume.
I plan to repeat this test with my Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 Pro earphones (21 ohms, 119dB/mW!) and will let you know about the results.
P.S.: IMHO I don't think a firmware volume patch would do the trick at all, because the noticable distortion of the w950i on max volume shows that the inbuilt amp is too weak.

PhantomEWB:
where did you get the MSI FS310 and for what price? I tried to find a retailer but couldn't find any. |

You've got to ask james444 about that as I don't have this product and have no idea how to get in EU. On the msi website there are links to some US retailers. Googling doesn't help as well.

w950i max volume test, part 2:
Comparing Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 Pro to Sony MDR-EX 90 and Audio-Technica ATH-CK7 the former are considerably more efficient headphones. To give you a figure: volume step 14 (wired) with the Sonys or ATs compares roughly to step 12/13 with the UE5s. Same ratio is true with the MSI FS310 via A2DP.
So, considering max volume alone, I think the UE5s are sufficiently loud and offer great sound even wired. But taking into account that these are $250 earphones, the ATH-CK7 ($70) together with the FS310 are a much better deal, with a punchy bass that blows the wired UE5s out of the water.
That said I am sorry that the MSI FS310 is so hard to find outside of Germany and Austria. There is one german dealer (esato.de) who ships to the EU, but the webshop is german only. So if you are interested I suggest you contact him at anfrage@digitalo.de.

they sell it, it costs 46 euros + 18 for P+P to UK + 10 taxes I guess (everything was in german). |
