samsung sold 32m phones during Q4. meaning SE hasn't passed them yet
|
|
Mr. Flint said by Value. He meant sales in $$$ not in volume of units sold. Samsung sold 32m phones but sales is only 4.7 billion while SE sold only 26m phones yet sales is 4.9 billion. So SE's sales is $200million more than samsung for the 4th Qtr making it 3rd on sales by Value.

Well still, it shows how strong SE are doing in the market.

I agree. Its better to be more profitable than just having a bigger market share. In which case SE shows that they are in better shape. |

I was surprised to see Miles Flint speaking in CNN yesterday...looking like is garnering people's respect much more than previous years ...Great work ... hope this year would also be gr8 ...but hopefully they will keep quality & innovation over quantity

It also gain 1% market share just 3 months. Thats staggering, I think Samsungs market share is around 15% so, if it kept that rate up it would be No 3 before the end of the year.
2007 looks like a bumper year, the strategy is winning and it has a broad spread of handsets unlike 2 years ago.

I might be mistaken, but didn't SE say something about issue 40 new models during 2007?
If they manage to do that, and in the same time keep the same level of quality on all models, they really going to make an impact on the market, and Samsung better be watching out.
Mr Flint stated that one of the reasons why SE has such a good quarterly report is that they taking care of the logistic them self. After the success with the T610 model they realized they could have sold even more if there logistics had worked.
To day SE are manufacturing 40% of there own mobiles, rest is manufactured by entrepreneurs, so they can have a much better control on the hole picture in getting phones to the shops.

Well they have also purchased big stakes in their manufacturing plants too so they have more control of the whole process. They did have a bad reputation for running short of handsets, which must have affected sales figures - I remember it happening with the W800i after it was launched.
Whats needed now is a nice selection of Cyber-shot handsets - 20MP upwards, they need to capitalise on the success of the K800i. The 5.0MP cam is bound to be a hit - as long as the design is right then there is no reason why it shouldn't be as successful as the K800i.

Great news for SE.
But with all the outsourced manufacturing + cost cutting, there will be no more phones made in Sweden or France like the good old days.
That's same for every company though.

It would seem Samsungs market share is 3% down compared to this time last year. Moto is not too happy either.
Also from the same link, Ai is to be announced in February according to Miles Flint.

Yes, those where the happy days, but who can afford that now?
If they had manufacturing in Sweden the quarterly report would not be as nice.

I really like Mr Flints answer to what he thinks about Apples entry to the market.
"We do not want to comment on competitors, and while we respect all of all our competitors, we fear none of them,"
And he continue...
"We have got hit products in the pipeline to replace our current hit products," |
