Another solution is to create an "Ignore" button.

@energy - I think that won't be necessary . . . as you can just simply . . . 'ignore' it

@amnesia - What I meant back there is some kind of a 'light' BAN . . . say, like an hour or two - when ONLINE [addsig]

Bans are questionable?...but as amnesia proposed a 3 strike system and your out would be the best way...This should be shown with the 3 strikes visible alongside the username of the member..this would also deter other would be offenders.

Currently the system is very unfair and only punishes the poster who puts hard work and effort into his/her thread only for it to be sabotaged and spoiled by some idiot.

@axxxr - Yup, I totally agree with that . . . BAN is very questionable, specially if you were NOT given a warning prior . . . just HIT the button in an INSTANT !

Under the avatar it should be posted:

First Offense - 1st Ban

Second Offense - 2nd Ban

Third Offense - 'Banished'

I think its time some sort of penalty system is introduced to punish members who deliberatly sobotage threads....I would personally like to call them \"Thread Terrorists\"

I think most here would agree that if someone can't have a civil and adult debate then you should not be allowed to participate in such discussions and spoil it for the others and the thread poster.

Too many are getting away with destroying other peoples hard work and something needs to be done about it!

It is pretty obvious that some people try to act smart and get threads forcefully locked.

here's a pm that was sent to me by mistake.

""C'mon NAME HERE, don't get sucked into a slanging match.

Scotsboyuk will bring some order to this 70 page argument and it would pay to position yourself well at an early stage.

Stick to your 'lets have a ceasefire this week' line.
It's hard to argue against a peacemaker."

no, but trying to stop a topic from existing is thread trashing.

Its not just about takin threads off topic.....this is more to do with certain members who intentionally try to sabotage threads in order to get them locked as we have seen recently in the 9/11 thread. [addsig]

I totally agree, as i have put soo much work into that 9/11 thread and to see it locked makes me wonder if i would ever put too much effort again which will be a negative plus for laffen. You guys may have noticed i have not been posting as much as before because i worry if it will be locked up again. But i'm very shocked about someone accentally pm'ing amnesia about there little conspiracy. So instead of punishing all of us we should have a warning signal to target each individuals instead as a whole. Personally I think this warning gauge should only beable to be viewed by the mods or the actual account holder to save them from the embarrassment.

I've suggested this to masseur before but a quick solution to this problem would be to delete offending posts or ban the member from entering that particular thread again, rather than locking it.

This would save the thread and keep someone elses hard work from being spoiled and keep trouble makers away.

Currently the system is just a complete farce that a thread that has been doing so well for 2 years gets locked because of a couple of scheming members who's sole intention was to cause trouble and get that thread locked! [addsig]

interesting how this discussion has evolved.

I thought discussion threads on other threads that have been locked weren't allowed.

If discussion was kept to mobile phones and harmless topics like Bog roll wedding dresses then there would be no need for this thread.

It concerns me that a PM I accidentally sent to amnesia turns up here, and considering the content was designed to encourage another member to calm down and articulate himself carefully, what is wrong with the PM anyway?

If you want to debate the 9/11 conspiracies then debate them properly.

If you only want to promote conspiracies then fine. I'll start a thread rebutting 9/11 conspiracies and you stick to your thread, I'll stick to mine.

You choose.

"If discussion was kept to mobile phones and harmless topics like Bog roll wedding dresses then there would be no need for this thread. "

It's called the NON MOBILE section.

"It concerns me that a PM I accidentally sent to amnesia turns up here, and considering the content was designed to encourage another member to calm down and articulate himself carefully, what is wrong with the PM anyway?"

You've just exposed yourself.... I didn't mention any names....

"If you want to debate the 9/11 conspiracies then debate them properly. "

It is not your place to choose how a person's methods of debate is proper.

"If you only want to promote conspiracies then fine. I'll start a thread rebutting 9/11 conspiracies and you stick to your thread, I'll stick to mine. "

By all means, go ahead. I encourage that. I stay out of threads I am not interested in.

This thread is a WARNING SYSTEM thread. Not a thread for you to argue about another thread.

So please go away and make your own and hopefully you'll stick to the topics at hand.

So far anything that is mentioned in this thread is related to WHY a warning system is needed. Your contribution to this thread is not needed.

A personaly think a warning gauge should be visible under the username for everyone to see as that would work as a good deterrent for would be trouble makers, aswell as work as a remind for the offender that his or her conduct is being monitored.

The graph should be something like this:
