Until they can integrate an antenna the radio seems useless to me.

I agree that it would be good if the antenna could be incorporated into the cell, but the problem is fm antenna's need a good 30cm atleast (stretched out, not coiled) to get decent reception. That's why fm radios always have either a headset that acts as antenna but no external speaker, or if they have an external speaker they have a long retractable aerial.
You won't see fm radios without some kind of aerial that's atleast 30cm long, so I don't see how a phone can break this rule.

I thought I read somewhere here that you could get the radio to work by inserting a staple on the bottom of the phone the same way the handsfree would potrt and then activate and use the radio. Is this just wishful thinkling? |

no, it works, but the reception is non-existent. There is a way to listen to the radio through the external speaker, but you can't do it without an accessory attached (or the staple trick).
Listen to radio through external speaker
If you plug in a HF, then go to radio, more, turn on speaker, you will be able to listen to the music through the external speaker.
make your own antenna
You can also cut the mike and earphones off an old headset leaving about 30cm of lead, which then also makes a fairly decent antenna. However you can't get away from needing that antenna

yeah i use it previously by buying fake SE handset (about US$7) and cut all the wire until the only square left... sounds seems to be undifferent compared to MMC60 or hpm70... ~quick and easy method (cuting all the wires lol.) |

I saw on ebay a 3.5 audio connector that had no wire at all, just the square and you plug headphone directly into the side of it. So that might work as well. |
