K800!

*It can do mostly everything plus much much more than the W810.
I*f your concerned about not having Edge and Quadband get a K790.
*The media players are exactly the same as the Walkman players, except obviously not being branded Walkman, looking different (I think nicer) and the only feature difference I hear is Mega Bass, but who needs it!
*Much better camera and although 3.2mp is not a great leap from 2.0mp, you can tell the difference straight away. Also remember that the K800 has so many new and current camera features that no other SE phone has at this moment, including a Xenon real camera flash!
*Due to the K800's dominating processing power it is much faster and can do more things at once.
*Although slightly bigger than the W810, you get the compensation of a larger and insanely amazing screen.
*The K800 has a joystick, although its a matter of opinion to what kind of controls you like on a phone, the joystick is much better for gaming, internet browsing, scrolling etc. Also this time SE have made sure that the phone and its joystick are much more prepared for the outer horrors of this world that phone owners fear the most, dust and dirt etc.
*Of course the K800 has 3G abilities, fine it doesn't have edge and quadband, but if your looking for those get an identical but that K790.
*Internet browsing is great, being able to view real html internet rather than wap, although still possible if you want.
*Because of the bigger and better screen viewing videos, entertainment, gaming and loads more is much better.

But thats not to slag off the W810, since its a great phone, looks great, does great things and of course if money's and issue, its cheaper!

Well there's loads more but thats my change for a while.

I'd go for the k800, it looks sweet. I got the w800 on a whim when it was launched, but have found out that I just don't like the styling of SE's Walkman range (just personal preference). [addsig]

The K800 has A2DP, but the media player doesn't just lack megabass, but a lot of the other walkman player functions (like the sorting, the easy pop up of the media player etc).

It's by no means bad, but it's a shame we're currently seeing a split between Cyber-shot and Walkman. I quite liked it when we had the K750 and W800 - with both being the same spec. The W810 is still a great product though.

You just wait, there'll be a cybershot walkman phone yet.
I think the best walkman phone so far is the Vodafone V630I. It's great the way they've integrated it's media 3G stuff into the handset but it's a shame it's Vodafone because of the branding. But because it's based on the K610 then it's the same size as the K750.
If you want a walkman phone then get the W950I, it'll blast that Nokia N91 outta the water I reakon.

ive been telling people this everytime theyre split between two phones (positioned in the same market segment in terms of pricing, one released a quarter ago and another just recently) - price shouldnt certainly be an issue as you actually considered getting the K800 - go for it. the W810 is more than a year-old's technology (having been based off the K750).

on a side note, i didnt hold back getting my w810 for the k800 cos (since i got an n-gage qd), i realized i get hassled by phones that i cant fit in my pocket. and k800 is already too big for my tastes. shameful thing, really, because these bigger screens will result to bigger handsets, and i think we're seeing the last of 28 x 35 mm screens (that's good enough for me, thank you) in the upper market segment

I don't doubt it, but there is going to be a period between now and Christmas where there is a definite split, which could backfire. Sony Ericsson has enjoyed MASSIVE success with the W800 (and now the W810) because it's such a good all-rounder. Consumers aren't just buying it because it's a MP3 player but because it can also take excellent pictures.

The switch to the far inferior non-autofocus 2MP sensor is a backward step. SE must hope that a lot of people don't notice, but the quality of the pictures WILL be noticed in my opinion - which will make some people decide not to buy another SE product. The W800/W810 (even the K750) does so well because it does everything brilliantly, with hardly anything to dislike about it.

One thing strikes me as odd; the K800 still uses the old blue triangle for GPRS/PS and the old 3G logo! Was this phone in development LONG before the release of the W810 and all the others that have the far nicer icons? [some networks will of course replace these with their own, but I have the generic version - which also lacks the update service facility?!]

I'm not totally convinced about UIQ 3 yet. I had a prototype W950i (but with P990 firmware) and now I've already previewed the M600i. It doesn't work that well as a phone, and I'm still not convinced about the use of valuable screen 'real estate' with all the icons, headers etc.

It's hard for me choose from the two either. Thanks for all your opinions, people.

If you want imaging over everything, the K800 is a good choice. If music is the most important (and you don't need 3G), get the W810. The K800 nicely fades the volume in/out when pausing, but the player is still limited - especially when it comes to sorting files, and the lack of megabass which IS noticeable if you use the Walkman headphones.

The W810 still has an excellent camera, and if you need the flash then get the Xenon attachment. If you're printing at 6x4 inch, or just working with images on a PC (and scaling them down accordingly) then the quality difference won't be that obvious. BestPic is great though, but if you've never had it, you won't necessarily miss it!

Ideally, go and check them both out side by side. You may hate the protruding camera on the back of the K800 (the nastiest bit of the phone), helping you decide!

As for the screen, I thought I'd never be able to go back to 176x220 pixels after having the W900, but I did and never really had a problem. Now I've got the K800, with the improved UI (anti-aliased fonts), I can see it being a bit more of a problem.
