The Opera browser thingy isn't anything new. And while a lot of info says it's supposed to be included with the phone. it's not however. The browser on the phone can't do any of the things the hype about the Opera browser talks about. And you can't download the browser anywhere either. So it's most likely vaporware.

Quote from Opera's site:

UIQ
Opera is the default browser for Symbian OS communicator devices and is bundled with the operating system. The user interface is developed by UIQ and is part of the general delivery to the licensees.

The recently introduced Small-Screen Rendering technology is currently being ported to the UIQ platform. Please contact us for more information about availability of this feature.

Opera for UIQ is currently not available for download or purchase by end-users. If in the future a UIQ based device ships without Opera we will reconsider this policy.

Please contact us if you are interested in our browser for UIQ or for availability of the UIQ feature and explain how you believe our companies can work together. Demo versions will be made available to key partners.

Just wondering... what does Opera promise that the built-in P800 browser can't do? So far I love the built-in browser of the P800... I like it better than the Webviewer browser I downloaded. Only reason I use Webviewer is cuz I can surf over Bluetooth while I'm at home. But over GPRS, I use the built-in P800 browser!

Why Opera is potentially better than the built-in browser:
* Javascript
* Frames - don't like frames but they are common so...
* Don't have to scroll sideways. Can look at whole page just by scrolling with jog-dial.

Javascript seems to work on my builtin browser. Frames no, and small screen technology is still being ported to UIQ. Let's hope they will offer this as a simple patch that end users can download and install themselves

Now, if only Opera can surf the Net over Bluetooth like Webviewer (which connects to the net through any available connection: IR, BT, cable or GPRS)

any idea when and where opera will be available for the P800 as their website states it's not available for download by end users.

That's so weird because I always thought that Opera was the built in symbian browser! So is the one that comes with it good? Would u even get Opera?

I thought that with the current browser u didn't have to scroll horizontally but i guess i was wrong.

The built-in browser doesn't support frames so when I access my Yahoo mail account I get the message that my browser doesn't support frames then I'm prompted to switch to the old. non-frames version of Yahoo Mail. At least I have that option. But I wonder if Opera will offer the browser for UIQ/P800. They make it clear on their website that it has to be SE that officially requests it, not us end users.
Either that or SE upgrade their browser. I'd prefer Opera's though just to be abe to see the whole web page in one go.
As for the video, I dunno. What OS r u using? I've got XP.
