Isn't this a question of hardware, and therefore impossible to implement in the phone at this stage? W900i has a GPU that makes QVGA recording possible and K800i hasn't got that chip. Just wait for the camcoder phone if you want that function.

I've got a feeling that the K800 does have this 'chip' you talk of, but SE just decided that they didn't want the K800 to have the better video recording so that they can use that as a pull for customers on a new future phone.

Heh, it would be pretty stupid SE to have the chip (a GoForce 4800 from nVidia) in the phone without using it, and no, they don't. It's probably part because of the upcoming camcoder phone and part because of the size. K800i is already pretty big and with the GPU it would probably get too big, who knows...

YES to QVGA or CIF, althought I doubt they'll change anything this late in the game. It's such a Shame really.

Well - realtime playback of any video needs about 10 times LESS CPU processing power than realime recording. So just because it can playback QVGA it does not mean it can record it in realtime. Sorry mate...

My answer would be YES. But it's too late.

My answer is a YES.

But like people have already said, if the phone doesn't have the Hardware Chip in it then how is it going to do it??

Capturing 9 single images and just compressing them a little bit to jpeg is something totally different than encoding mpeg4 or 3gp video. There you need motion estimation, quantisizer matrixes, scaling etc. etc.
I'm developing in video encoding techniques and believe me - it's not as easy as you think. The needed encoding power roughly rises by a factor of 8 if you double the size of the resulting image. The datavolume increases by 4 - by the way.

Of course - maybe there is enough power, and SE just doesn't want to have that feature - but I doubt that.
Just by looking at some other features of the device you cannot tell something about it's recording capabilities.

How can you say se has screwed you over?? nobody is forcing you to buy it, if you dont like it just because of one tiny feature that you dont agree with then go and look at another phone, the list of features on this phone is amazing, stop whinning on about crappy video recording quality. The K800 is branded as cybershot not handycam, hence the photographic orientated features. If video recording is the most important feature you need then why not jump ship to Nokia or Samsung or even better wait till the so called H series se phones come out!!!

who really cares about video recording anyway? nopbody uses it for anything purposeful, and those that do use mini-DVR cameras...face it, you aint gonna get decent video capture on a phone...mainly because theres no point! if a digital video camera capturing at 1.3mp can fill a 4 gig card in an hour, why bother????? use a tape..it can hold a whole lot more

a tiny camera is hardly going to make much difference
