Its simple.
Vodafraud and SE have always had a good relationship, and since Vodafraud are pretty much the worlds #1 operator, why not jump into bed with them and have them pay you for every handset they sell ?
Its crap for the consumer who doesnt like branding though.

Well you can buy contract phones from the uk networks via the eshop on their site now, so they're scratching each other's backs. |

Yes and no. The eShop isnt really an official SE dealer, its a third party dealer that is signed up with SE to sell their products for them.
I always thought the eShop was like calling SE themselves, but actually the eShop is just another third party company that has a deal with SE. Thats why when you call them for release date information, they tell you SE have told them nothing (because they arent actually part of SE).

So Vodafone is getting another exclusive release on a Walkman handset despite the agreement that SE announced with Orange earlier this year that all Walkman handsets would be released exclusively (or at the same time) on the Orange network (and Orange branded).
This was in the press release:
Orange will be first or joint first to market with the roll out of the Sony Ericsson Walkman® phones
http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]1_1&zone=pc&lm=pc3_1&prid=4974
Unless Orange are going to surprise us with an early release (which I doubt) or perhaps the Vodafone entry is mistake? I sometimes feel these companies make up stories just to send out press releases!

I don't think that agreement meant Orange will have exclusivity on the new handsets. Its says : -
Orange customers will further benefit from the partnership as all new handsets within the Sony Ericsson Walkman® phone portfolio, commencing with the W810i and W300i, will be customised to fit with Orange’s successful Signature strategy. The Signature approach offers a consistent and easy to use interface across a variety of handset manufacturers.
It just means all handsets will be signature devices (branded), just like voda. The only exclusivity is the partnership with Sony/BMG and Miss Aguirella. |

If you read the bottom of the press release under Notes to Editors it reads the following:
* Walkman® is the registered trademark of Sony Corporation
* The agreement covers Belgium, France, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and the UK
* Orange will be first or joint first to market with the roll out of the Sony Ericsson Walkman® phones

All I know is that I want the M600. However, I will never ever get a Vodafone branded one (I'd rather make all my calls with a semi-fresh dogshit pressed to my ear). My first SE phone was a Voda branded t610, and I absolutely despised it. It is a mystery to me why Voda ruin good phones by putting their abysmal software on them.
They can't exactly expect to endear customers. I got the Voda t610 as soon as it came out, and since then I have purposely avoided Vodacrap. Couple this with their company ethics, and you have a perfect recipe for a company which I would not touch with a barge-pole. Goodbye Voda, and don't let the door hit your ugly arse on the way out...

You tell us, but i dont think its down to joe average realising Vodafone kill phones with their branding.
The masses are and always will be rather ignorant to such topics.
