I totally agree, and its true that having a ture phone will not seriously compromise the sales of the other phones which do not have all the features. One classic example is the W800, which had the camera of the K750 plus . K750 sold better, and the users who also wanted a decent music player in their phone got it. Nokia is able to create good 'all-in-one' mobiles (N series), and it does seem to be working, and even some of us SE fanatics are wavering slightly on brand loyalty.
I was shocked to learn that future phones will NOT have auto focus, and also the lack of an active lens cover. And now SE hasn't got a decent flagship to show off. Sure the W900 is a good phone, but it's not that much different, and there's nothing extra spectacular compared to other brands. The S700 in its day was spectacular!
I don't think that having lots of specialist devices is a bad thing, and I'm not being critical of having choice and the wide range of new SE mobiles this year, but there needs to be one higher end phone with everything, if not, than then it's going to be a problem.

Surely the "high end phone that has everything" that everyone craves is the P990.
Personally I don't think there's any reason why there shouldn't already be a phone on the market which has all the features of the k-jam plus a decent-sized hard disk and at least a 2MP camera. But there isn't and I have to live with it. |

I understand completely where you are coming from however if was to bring out a handset with equally as good cam as a Cybershot and vice-versa then what would be the point of having these Sony branded handsets in the first place.
They would be the same phone, just with a different sticker and designation, consequently would be accused of trying to pull the wool over our eyes by selling the same handsets to us, just rebadged
Maybe, as has been suggested, a new small range of top-flight handsets might be the idea, with all of the latest features, with one stipulation - none of them can be any bigger than the current W900i

my biggest quirk about the w850 was leaving autofocus out-fine, 2MP works well for me. but the smaller, leaner, and imo better-looking w810 has AF. I dont need 3.2 MP (for now) but come on, no auto focus?!? that almost renders the camera useless (dont even start mentioning other brands; we're zealots here and our biggest strength over other manufacturers is 's (former) premise of not skimping on features |
