i received my w810 yesterday and so far i've only had two dropped calls out of 10 whose durations varied from 10-50minutes (did not count calls that lasted under 10minutes). both were calls to the same #, and the person admits to having a crappy reception and a crappy phone.

This is what i recommend if you have a drop calls, go to a cingular store, request that you get a different sim card, I once recall someone telling me at the cingular store that they sim cards that are made from two different companies. One of the, they said, usually has problems with drop calls. So i think the best thing to do is go and switch it out.

I'd like EVERYONE to PLEASE REMEMBER, that I work in sales for T-MOBILE, and NOT CINGULAR, even though I use to work for them for 2 years as well. I've now worked for T-Mobile for over 2 years, and in my experience in working for the cell phone industry having worked for almost every carrier but two, there is some truth to swaping out your sim card for a different one to reduce dropped calls.
BUT, only in RARE situations is this the case. It most always is NEVER the sim card, and also remember, I DID swap my sim with a sim made in france, made for T-Mobile, and still had the same amount of dropped calls.
However, if you still want to inquire, you can ask to view the different types of sim cards your carrier has on hand at your local Cingular or T-Mobile store and they should have no problem showing you.
The way you can tell the difference is, one, by reading from the card itself where the sim is made and what company made it for your carrier. If this isn't printed on the carrier's card, then two, you can attempt to identify which one is different from your current sim by the metal contact design on your sim card's surface.
Alas, again, I would still stand to point out that the sim is almost NEVER the reason a phone drops calls or has poor reception, but if I had a dime for everytime I've heard a customer being told that it WAS due to the sim from some other moron sales rep or customer care agent, I'd be a rich man today and wouldn't care if the w810 dropped calls like flys. Hell, id have one as a toy just for fun! |
