Completley argree, however China has the potential for something major to happen in the next 100 years or so... I can't comment much on it as I only know a little background info on it, but i'm pretty sure it's possible.

China certainly has the potential to become a superpower, but I think that will be more of a long term process.
There is a discussion of China's superpower potential in this Wiki article.

everything of such a grand scale is a long term process. (I dont think it's going to take 100 years though)
Good thing Qatar has tight relations with China.

I don't really care,I still think it was better during the cold war both sides although were always on the brink of war, kind of ironic that it kept both from fighting a actual war and thus keeping the peace..In case you had'nt noticed we are living in much more dangerous times now with america let loose, nothing worse than a rabid dog let loose trust me!

The Cold War bred such conflicts as the Korean War, Vietnam, Afghanistan, etc in addition to which there was the ever present danger of global nuclear war. The Cold War only kept the superpowers from fighting a war, they used everyone else as proxies in their game of global chess.

The 'child' part of that quote I cited seems most apt here.

Indeed it has but china is on the right track, and maybe in 20 or 50 years from now i believe china will be a force to reckon with.

I think it already is a force to be reckoned with, they are arguably already a 'regional superpower'. I think we shall probably see a more multi-polar world in the future as the world becomes more integrated and different 'emerging superpowers' come to the fore.

Maybe no one can compete with the U.S in terms of military power their is no question about that. But thats not the debate here and is rather off topic,I believe the the topic was The U.S selling dodgy jets to us.

I'd tend to agree, I think China has the potential to become a supower within a century. A big factor in all of this is what happens politically within China itself.

Boring is quite subjective Axxxr, but thats neither here nor there.
To the topic at hand I have to say that the replies seem just a little over reactionary. Does anyone presume for a moment that the manufacturers might NOT have crippled the jets in any way?
Seems this is almost like FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) over a non issue. |

There is no need to inform us of that, I think it's blatantly obvious.

It seems they are already doing that. Economics seems to the first thing to change, but hopefully the political situation will follow suit soon.

I realise that a lot of what you post doesn't make sense, but that makes even less sense than usual.

Perhaps it's one of the other people in there with you.
Presumably no one is capable of a witty comment in your eyes then ...

I think you are right Gigs. Personally I think the company selling the aircraft are just protecting their intellectual property rights. I doubt there is a backdoor. The bios could be reverse engineered by RAF boffins if they really needed to know.
In this particular case I believe it would be appropriate to supply the source code, since it's a miltiary buyer, but that's my opinion and the law may be on the side of the manufacturer. I know if I asked ASUS for the source code to my laptop's bios they would tell me to take a long jump of a short pier.

hehe! What's so funny about you guys arguing so much, you are both two of the most respected members of Esato, but yet can't seem to agree on anything
I personally appreciate Scot's ability to keep discussions relevant (by making me really think about what I'm saying). I don't always agree with his points, but I always end up thinking about my points more deeply when Scot's is around. Plus he is (usually) good at using real information to refute knee jerk claims in heated discussions (for example the china wiki link in this thread)
On the other hand, Axxxr's prolific posting of these important issues also makes people think about them more, and while he sometimes brings up reactionary statements that may not be true (for example I doubt the us jets have a backdoor - just because something can't be shown to be false doesn't prove it is true), Axxxr nevertheless brings up many legitimate issues that no one else has the guts to air. Politically I probably lean more towards Axxxr's views, but my sense of logic is closer to Scot's.
So I really appreciate both you guys input into threads. Atleast until it descends into the name calling lashings of the last two or three posts, but up to then it was all good
