Yeah, me too. I'm playing around with java midp at the moment. I've never done any kind of programming other than html and it's doing my head in. I can barely get the "hello world" demo app, let alone design an API myself

not so. Some Series 60 phones don't have the range and therefore cannot be used.

And there is IR remote control software for uiq2 (aka symbian SE P-series). UIQ 2 phones are not series 60

thanks for pointing out my mistake

But if arent all series 60's symbians?

all series 60's are symbian yes, but not all have the ir range to work as a remote.

And the Pseries symbian phones are not s60, they are uiq2 (symbian being the operating system, and series 60 being the Nokia user interface and UIQ2 being the SE user interface)

In other words all s60's are symbian, but not all symbian are s60. Some are UIQ2 (there are other interfaces to, such as the new UIQ3)

Check my project at:

remotej.sf.net

This is an application that adds customizable menu to your mobile phone.

It's written in Java, using rxtx library. Usable under Windoze too, target platfrom is by default Linux, so you might have to tweak it a bit to make it work with your PCTV app under Windoze.

Under Linux I am using it everyday with a bluetooth usb adapter. (with tvtime pctv application)

yes. the only effective way to use the k750 as a tv remote is to use the hid editor to create a bluetooth remote control hid for your tv application on a computer (or check out remotej too)

There is actually a way... use your K750 to call someone and yell at them untill they go and change the channel on your TV for you... problem solved

Eish People this made me laugh big time.

Anyway according to my knowledge MIDP2 (Supported by K750) doesn't have IR API so not application can control IR. And as they have already said the range is short.

I get the impression you can use the obex file transfer api as long as IR is already turned on. MIDP cannot activate/deactivate IR itself.

But I'm not 100% sure about that.

the thing i cant understand with all this is.

what is the point

where is the joy in using a K750 to change a channel? why not just pick up the remote control? it certainly is a bit sturdier and wont break if you drop it. i cant understand these threads, maybe my 'se fanatical genes' have left me. [addsig]

I have lost my TV remote control and it would have been convenient to have an alternative to switch on my tv and change channels.

Since we are controlling winamp with phone why not TV?

It was in a house move. My phone is always on me
I am sure I'll find it after I buy a new one...

I disagree: a phone is a phone, a camera, a walkman, a flashlite, a PC remote, and (some) a TV remote...
