Do not you have the same 8but less noisy9 problem with R1N035?
PI set the volume level to 0 or 1 bar and I ear a crackling noise when the other person (I am talkin to) is mute; very good voice sound when the other person talks but as soon as he/she stops, I ear the crackling noise thta disappears after setting the volume bar at 3.
May you please tell me if any of you has already remarked the same with R1N035?
P.S. I downloaded too the R1A008 and I downgraded to R1N035 (thanks to DaVinci) since it was a pain!!
Thanks

I purchaced my W800i direct from Sony Ericsson earlier this month.
Phone came with R1N035, call volume was low, with no hissing at lower volume settings.
I updated to R1AA008 a few days ago, and call volume is much better (louder), with no hissing or any other noises when set to low volume levels. (during conversations)
I have noticed however that since using this phone, I noticed that when the party your talking to is not saying anything, there is kind of a hollow hissing sound (at any volume level, with both firmware versions), but it is not a major problem for myself.
I may be wrong, but it seems to be the way the phone decodes the incoming audio during a call. It may be how the hardware decodes the audio, but I am not sure.
I say this because up until I started using this phone, I used only Nokia products (6610, 6100, 6101), and never heard that hollow hissy noise when the other party isn't speaking. So that got me to thinking it just might be the hardware.
Anyhow, just a thought. |

I don't know if this is related to the hissing sound or no:
If you go to service menu (>*<<*<*) and then service tests, and then "Earphone",
what you get is a terrible whizzzzzzzz sound even with low volume levels.(at first u think that ur speaker is torn)
I didn't notice such sound in previous F/Ws.I don't know if it is only in my earphone, or it is F/W related.
plz do the test and confirm my finding if u got the same result. |

No unusual sounds from my earphone when conducting the test you described. |

I'm beginning to think there's a hardware problem with many K750.
I downgraded from R1AA008 to R1N035 (using DaVinci) since I couldn't stand the hissing sound. I thought everything was fine. But I have noticed that when there is a quite surrounding there's still a hissing sound, it's just lower now. The reason it's harder to hear the hissing in R1N035 is because the ear speaker is much lower in volume overall.
So I downgraded another K750 to R1N035 with the same result.
Here's my conclusion: The hissing sound is not firmware related. It's a hardware problem. A lot of people have this problem (I now have tried about 10 different phones - all have hissing sound). Those here who report that they don't have a hissing sound - you simply don't have a hardware problem.
The reason why all this has not come to peoples attention is that the volume in the K750 was so low (until R1AA008) that you only could hear the hissing very low, but it's there! With R1AA008 the ear speaker volume is louder - hence more people do notice the hissing sound.
Let's start sending these phones in for service! |

I think ther ARE some hardware problems in my k750
did u just check ur earphone via test menu as i mentioned?
It really sounds bad.
I don't know ; maybe it's because the phone fell off my habd and the earphone speaker is indeed torn ;But i think there are just some more sensitive parts in the phone rathar than the earphone to become problematic. |

Your observations make sence, it could very well be a hardwareproblem with some phones and not others. Perhaps from a specific batch, or specific manufacturingplant or a specific manufacturingperiod whith a delivery of some problematic hardwarecomponents or something.

With R1N I experience no cutting out, static or hissing at all. So I don't know if it is really a hardware issue.

I have the same crinkling sound when the other person is mute...so gladly a firmware bug because withe the older 035 firmware the problem was not in the phone. |

I agree with riffola; it could be a s/w issue more evident with R1A008 and less evident (but still present) with R1N. NOTE that with R1N it is audible only when volume bar is < 3 and you must be, in order to ear it, in a very silent place. It is not a hissing noise but a crackling one just when the other party stops talking and it is random. Sometimes, indeed, it disappears even at 1bar volume.
I had also another issue: I made a phone call and instead of earing the standard "tu...tu...tu" (i.e. before other party answering) I had a continuous crackle noise that I heard also with the loud speaker (==> not due to the earphone)! This should witness that the s/w might be incriminated.
I remind that I have a K750i with R1N035 currently

mine has no hissing sounds during calls or either low volume mp3. i got R1AA from a Davinci upgrade of R1N035.
from R1L China (ZN), i made to EU2 for FW (R1N) and America 2 as the CDA.
and then tried upgrading to R1AA using SEUS 2. luckily it went thru like a breeze.
and then here is the details...
R1AA008

is there any anomaly in there? tho my fon is perfectly fine. noticed volume change.. it was louder than R1N. and the screen now is crispier (for the colors and image sillouhettes that is).
i have made the update like around 2-3 weeks ago.

Does it depend on who you call? Does it always happen with the same person?
My phone doesn't do the hissing, and I'm at the latest firmware.... BUT everytime I talk to my girlfriend, (she's on Tmobile too), I get this static when she is NOT talking.
Sounds like this.... KSHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, then when she talks, it's very clear, but when she pauses between sentences, it's back to KSHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and it changes it's pitch everytime it makes the noise.
But it doesn't happen all the time. When it does, it's always with her phone. This never happened when I had another phone. So maybe it depends on the other person too? |

fatfree, thats the exact description what i have also. noise between words. the "hissing" what i said is somewhat wrong.
I got response from Ericsson support:
Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Call Center.
Thank you for your feedback. The problem you describe is not a general problem after the firmware update so we recommend that you contact a servicecenter for control of your phone.
[list of phone operators&phone sellers]
DOH!
The thing is, probably i have to pay for the downgrade, because the update service probably invalidates the warranty... Argh :| |
