It seems now that 3g is getting a much larger user base and i'm curioius, are non 3g phones are on their way out like dial up? I am starting to feel left behind with the good offers that are coming to 3g enabled phones (sky tv etc)

So I was wanting feedback, do you use a 3g phone and if so what 3G features you use the most, thanks

GSM remains the world's fastest mobile technology, and faster than ever. In average 1 million new customer every day (!!!) in 3rd quarter.

Am using WLAN at home, and GSM/EDGE otherwise.
I tried first time video telephony (I was curious) last week, and it was a very very very very big disappointment!! Plain ugly.

Depends who you were talking to!!

I had a V800 for a while but sold it and got a W800i as the 3G reception is rubbish where I am. For the phone to stay on the 3G system it needed to have full reception or it revert to GSM instead. Never made one video call or streamed any video in the three months that I had it as I could never get decent reception even though Vodafone says there is reception in my area..

Are the Sky Tv channels(vodaphone) or the freeview channels (orange) that you recieve in your home, the same as the ones streamed to your mobile, or is it an edited version, just the highlights etc..?

I have a 3G phone (Z800) and 3G account.

I must admit I like it a lot. No because of any new or fancy services like TV.

Simply because it is so much better and faster than GPRS. WAP is now fast and really useful.

Plus I can connect my laptop via the phone and access the internet or our corporate network at reasonable speeds (its like using a low speed DSL connection, e.g. 256kbit).

So I like 3G, but simply because it is a faster evolution.

Roll on HSDPA is my opinion .

What are the data charges like for 3G? Is it still really expensive to use?

That's one big thing (as well as reception where I live) that's stopping me going to 3G. It still seems very gimmicky at the minute.

And do all the UK service providers still 'ringfence' their content, like 3 did, so you can only access what they want, or can you go to 'third party' sites like the BBC or Esato?

@ msmmsm

Some of the channels are live, others are on a loop. Channel 4 was live last night, I tested it against my TV!

You do need a really strong signal tho for it to be watchable!

after using 3G for 5 months, then loosing my V800, i decided that i will get a 2nd 3G phone for backup, as 2.5g just does not cut it anymore.
