Someone from the list of owners needs to contact orange and explain what is going on but more importantly try to find out when the block was implemented and why and by who???

It might be a simple case of someone quoting 1 wrong digit on the imie.

On a side note there are "dongles" available on some sites that can change the imie numbers on phones which although illegal in this country and europe are usable in the far east........as for importing them?????

That's something I don't think anyone would condone.

Orange will only give details to the person who blocked the phone.

I was not suggesting the use of a dongle by anyone, the fact that they are available is wrong in the 1st place, just saying that there are other possiblities for whats gone wrong here. I have been in this situation myself when i purchased a blocked p910 off ebay, luckily for me the seller had his mobile number available and a refund was sorted thru paypal...............but............have noticed that blocked phones are still available on ebay????

Its up to Ebay whether they want to deal in stolen goods but such talk on a public forum such as this can get the owner in serious trouble and in some instances the board has been shut down.

I don't really think that's a very constructive or helpful input to the situation.

The phone has already come back from doug, to mutleyboy who i refunded.

I am currently in possession of the phone, and need my money back. Being a student I can't afford to be 100+ out of pocket.

certainly Esato does not allow the sales of barred/blocked phones, nor discussion of how they can be unbarred, so please proceed cautiously with just the general discussion of who may or may not be responsible in this case and who should or should not make reparation. thanks

as far as i know the line, this is it:

last owner dougproctor(was in his possession when it was blocked-happened after he had it flashed according to a post he made in the p900 forum here)

before that merc_man

before that me

before that alec

before that alton_towers

before that handymobilezuk

now, from what i have gathered it has been working all the time until after dougproctor had it flashed.

I phoned orange yesterday who confirmed it was blacklisted(handymobilez apparently told alec he checked and no it wasnt blocked), orange would not give me any further info either.

I was also under the impression that only the original owner could get it blacklisted, as it would be registered to that persons address, and what would be the point of blacklisting it and getting a replacement if it could only be sent to the original owners address?

the way this looks to me is that it is the original owner who has got this phone blacklisted, just no-one knows who the original owner was further back than handymobilez

this is not quite correct,

merc_man refunded dougproctor, phone then went back to merc_man

i then refunded merc_man, and then alec refunded me and now has the phone. It looks like no-one else was willing to do refunds from that stage back

Difficult one that is.

Check the IMEI number on the box, back of the phone and actually from the phone and see if they all tally.

this is indeed a difficult one, as there was no box with the phone when i bought it off alec, was just the phone and accessories, dont know if there was originally no box when it was bought from handymobilez or alton towers etc

Well the way I look at it once dougproctor had it flashed then it was game over. Who knows what the person who flashed it did to the phone. If it was a shop they could have used the IMEI on another P910i (or any other phone for that matter) or caused no end of other problems.

fill me in please...i've never blocked a phone or had my phone blocked or whatever but surely you have to have your phone registered to you/some sort of proof of purchase before you can block a phone? You can't just call up give an imei and the phone is blocked? How does it work?

If this is the case, then the first owner is the only person that can block it right? Firstly who was the first owner - handy or someone before him? Secondly, why would the original owner want to block it after such a long time!?

The phone can still be checked by comparing the IMEI under the battery against the one actually shown on the phone.
