I come across something very very interesting lately.
I bought my k750i the second or so day it was released. My friends have now 'found' these phones very eye catchy, and my mate decided to buy one for himself. He bought the w800 as he didnt want people thinking he copied me.
As we was in lesson today i decided to try all the possibilities.
I have:
k750i
512mb
NOT a HPM-70 but a standard 3.5mm convertor (dodgey seller)
In ear apple earphones
He had:
w800
512mb
HPM-70... and the sonyericsson in ear phones which come with it.
Right... when i purchased my 3.5mm convertor i actually ordered a hpm-70... however when i recieved my hpm, it was faulty so i returned it and i got posted this standard one aswell as money on top. Now i was real pissed at the time however today i realised what a top bloke he was!!
I thought the HPM-70's looked cool so i took my mates w800 and accessories. I was also thinking about changing my firmware to w800. Anywho
I was expecting perhaps just a louder version to my k750, after all it is walkman branded phone, however i was too find this ear ringing noise. This terrible distortion crackling my ear drums to death, it wasn't even on max volume. I jumped straight to the conclusion... Eqalizer. I immediently changed it to how i listen to mine. It was still distorting never the least. :|
I then thought, maybe its these headphones, and slotted my in ear apple earphones. This problem still occured, but with more bass.
I then decided to put my 3.5mm convertor, tried his earphones. Ok the disortion had stoped however... it was soo quite!! It must have been about 3/4 of my k750 when at full. I was certain that maybe he isn't aware of the ear wax that builds up in the earphones and perhaps was decreasing the volume, as this is a problem with 'in earphones'.
So... i decided to once again insert my apple earphones. The volume still remained low. (No MY ear phones do not contain earwax )
I was confused... so i decided to run all these experiments on my k750i.
I started off with the HPM-70 and the sonyericsson earphones.
The sound yet again was disorting but at a MUCH higher volume. Ohh sweet jesus, i at long last had high volumed music... which Distorts.
I was convinced these earphones were messed. I tried mine, and it was the same. High volume, distortion. The only difference was the little difference between the earphones.
Sonyericsson In Ear - High level of treble, lack in bass. Yes i know exactly how to insert them but In Comparison to the Apple they lack in bass. Most may enjoy the bass and say its the perfect amount but im just one of those bass freaks. Snug fit generally, good ear phones.
Apple In EarPhones - High level of bass, treble and clarity isnt quite as crystal as those from the Sony Ericssons but never the less great treble. Fiting isn't as smug as the Sony's. I prefere the design and bass but people will have different thoughts.
...anyway
Finally i used my 3.5mm convertor and this was the turning point. Both earphones went extremely louder and clearer it was unreal. No distortion with my apple, however sony's had a tiny bit, but i use my eqaliser based upon my apple earphones. The sound blew me away. I was certain the Hpm-70's were the problem but when i tried my 3.5 convertor, apple earphones and sony earphones on the w800i, it was the same however MUCH quiter.
My result... from bad - good
w800i
HPM-70
SonyEricsson in ear phones
-Very messy, low volume... Distortion.
w800i
HPM-70
Apple In ear
-Very messy, low volume... Less distortion as to ^
k750i
HPM-70
SonyEricsson in earphones
-Sloppy sound, distortion.
Pros...High volume, better sound in comparisson to those ^
k750i
HPM-70
Apple in earphones
-Sloppy sound,distortion
Pro's...High volume, better sound to the w800i... aswell as a LITTLE less distortion, however enough to put someone off. (I'd pick a Nano at this point)
w800i
My 3.5mm convertor with handsfree
Sonyericsson in ear phones
Low volume
Pro's... No more distortion, good sound, but low vol.
w800
My 3.5mm convertor with handsfree
Apple in ear
Low volume
Pro's No more distortion, good sound, low vol never the less
k750i
My 3.5mm convertor with handsfree
Sonyericsson in ear phones
Tiny bit of distortion on max vol, some average joe wouldnt notice.
High pumping sound. Clear, gread clarity, good bass... however that tiny bit of distortion... (this is proberly down to my eqalizer and personal opinion like i mentioned earlier... soo i would proberly rate this along with my number 1)
k750i
My 3.5mm convertor with handsfree
Apple in earphones
No distortion on high levels. Amazing bass, great treble.. and bobs your uncle!!
However... any earphones i have tried... providing they be the most amazing earphones ie... shure e3cs... they will always distort on MEGA BASS. Soo... if any distortion its on Mega Bass, which i dont use.
( i havent had the privilige of the shure e5c's yet £300.00 + )
I might aswell show One of the equalizers i used. I used two however this is the one i use everyday life so...
In order. Bars going up

Thank you... i hope i've been of some significance, and sorry for rambling on a bit.

but i've heard from this store guy that the HPM 70 earbuds have a sound limiter (much like PSP earbuds, but louder), normaly they cost 50 euro's here (minus the 15 euros for sound limiter) and the SanDisk 512mb Memstick Pro Duo costs around 45 euros. So it's basically up to the person to make a pick.

so W800i for K750i use is bad after all? how different is it from the one supplied in the K750i? I noticed that the price of HPM70 is more expensive than the Ipod earphones.
