My problem has been solved by Mike,
The not sync. issue was a local language problem and as for cleaning out my mem card that was my own fault.
This piece of software is looking great!

No, I'm sorry but iWalkman won't ever be free... It took a whole lot of my time and effort to write the program and it costs me money and time to support it, host it on a web site, etc. Therefore, I have to charge something in order to continue making iWalkman available to the public.
I really don't think that $20 is too much to ask for an app as useful as this one is for your phone, PSP, etc. Heck, I'm sure that you spend more money than that just going out to the movies on the weekend. If you like the app, just skip the movie this weekend and buy it instead. |

Sharkey,
This really sounds like you've been bitten by the Sony Ericsson R1N firmware bug to me as that's EXACTLY what the bug does. i.e. the R1N bug corrupts your memory stick and makes it appear as if all of your files were deleted.
This definitely is NOT a problem with my program. It's a BUG in the firmware of your phone (assuming that you have R1N0035 installed on your phone that is).
I'm sorry that iWalkman caused the bug to appear on your phone, but there's not much I can do about it I'm afraid. Sony Ericsson really needs to step up to the plate on this one and fix the problem with their firmware, USB drivers, etc.
I think that there reason they are slow to react on fixing this one is that the problem doesn't appear if you use their Disc2Phone software to copy music to your phone (and that's what they want you to do). It ONLY happens when you copy files to your phone manually or using a program like iWalkman.
I don't know what else to tell you on this one I'm afraid. All I can say is that if you are using R1N firmware on your K750 or W800, then you should use a high-speed USB 2.0 card reader/writer to sync your music on your phone rather than using the phone's built-in USB Fast Port connector (as doing so MAY cause the R1N bug to appear and your Memory Stick MAY become corrupted).
I hope this helps some...

Again, this is the R1N bug you are experiencing as that's EXACTLY what it does. Take a look at the message I pointed you to that talks about the bug. |

Sweet! I'm very glad that I got it working for you.
BTW, I've now fixed the local language problem/bug in iWalkman and so it should now work with any language version of iTunes. I'll have the update available on my web site in a day or two (or you can just grab it using the program's Auto-Updater utility as soon as it becomes available).
Thanks again for all of your help with resolving the problem.

Hey Arez,
Yes, that's it exactly!
It's definitely the R1N bug that caused the problem for him. I really hope that SE gets it fixed soon as it's getting to be a real pain in my butt!
Thanks for stepping in on this one for me.

Hi I just tried downloading your program and tried running the installer but it won't install because a file is missing - FM20.DLL??? |

Yeah, sorry about that. FM20.DLL is a set of ActiveX controls (buttons, check boxes, etc.) required by one of the dialog boxes I'm using. It is included with any of the Microsoft Office applications (from 97 onward) such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc. Therefore, you must not have Microsoft Office (or one of it's stand-alone applications) installed on your machine.
If you don't want to install Office (or you don't have it) then you can freely download and install the Microsoft ActiveX Control Pad, which also installs FM20.DLL from here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/lib[....]y/en-us/dnaxctrl/html/cpad.asp
Sorry for the hassle on this one.

havent tried your software yet (cause I dont use my phone as mp3 player in a way that I need to synchronise), anyways looks very nice
Just a friendly suggestion, why not include the active X .dll's needed in the installer, with the option not to overwrite if allready present.
Then you wont run into problems with people not having office or similar installed, yet still have version controll so your software wont "mess up" any present installation requiring a specific .dll version.
Or if you dont want to do that, either because of licensing reasons, or because you want to keep down filesize of your software, then on your website make a note about the dll's needed (with a link) on your requirement description for your software.

Hi numb,
Thanks for your great comments and for your suggestions.
The problem with FM20.DLL is that Microsoft won't allow you to redistribute it and so I can't include it with my installer. What I really need to do is just re-write the dialog that requires that DLL so that it is no longer needed. However, I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment and so I've had to move doing that to my "to do" list for the moment. I'll get to it as soon as things slow down a bit.
I took your advice though and added a link to the two files required by iWalkman (and not included with the Installer) that may or may not be installed on a user's system and added them to my website's FAQ page along with links on where folks can download them from if they need to.
Thanks again for your help as I really do appreciate it.

Sorry, but I just don't do Mac I'm afaid. Therefore, there's no chance of a Mac version of iWalkman. Sorry about that.
BTW, there are a couple of similiar programs out there for the Mac already (that I know of). One is called Dreamsicle and the other is called iTuneMyWalkman. I have know idea how well they work though as I don't own a Mac to try them on. You can find them via a Yahoo or Google search. |

Hi All,
An update for iWalkman with many enhancements, improvements, and fixes is now available. You can download the update by selecting "Update" from iWalkman's main system tray icon popup menu and walking through the Auto-Updater wizard that appears. Otherwise, you can download it direct from the program's web site (on the Version History) page here:
http://www.i-Walkman.com
Here is a list of changes:
Version 1.02.0006 - October 25, 2005
- Added new "iWalkman Advanced Preferences" dialog box (accessed via a new "Advanced" button in the main iWalkman Preferences dialog box) with new advanced options that allow the user to:
1) Add or remove user-defined supported file types (for audio and video files). Note that the audio and/or video file type MUST be supported by iTunes in order for it to work with iWalkman.
2) Set the maximum number of characters allowed in folder and file names when audio and video files are copied to the Mass Storage Device (MSD).
3) Set the maximum allowed sample rate for WAV files. This is set at 16 kHz by default since that's what the Walkman player currently supports.
4) Sort songs which are part of a compilation album by the album's name (instead of by the individual artist's names).
5) Select the name for the folder in which the compilation album's songs will be placed. This is set to "Compilations" by default, but can be changed to anything (such as "Various Artists", etc.).
- Added an informational message that pops up from the iWalkman system tray icon the very first time the program is run telling the user how to interact with the program's main system tray popup menu.
- Added a warning message that is displayed during synchronization (first three synchronizations only) letting the user know that iWalkman synchronizes files in a one-way direction only (i.e. From iTunes To the phone) and so any audio or video files that exist on the Mass Storage Device and not in the selected iTunes playlist(s) will be deleted from the MSD.
- Added the ability to drag-n-drop any (single) playlist from the iWalkman Preferences dialog box's "iTunes Playlists To Synchronize" lists to the dialog box's "Synchronize" button in order to initiate a synchronization with just the dropped playlist.
- iWalkman now automatically closes when the user closes iTunes.
- Added default audio folder and video folder detection for Sony Ericsson W900, W600, and W550 phones (in addition to the W800, K750, D750, S710, S700, etc.), Nokia phones, and Sony PlayStation Portables.
- Added a button in iWalkman Preferences that allows the user to reset the audio and video location search path back to iWalkman's default "" setting (Where iWalkman will automatically search for an audio folder named "MP3", "music", "audio", "MSSEMCMedia filesaudio", "PALMPROGRAMSMSAUDIO", "SoundsDigital", or "PSPMusic" and a video folder named "video", "MSSEMCMedia filesvideo", or "MP_ROOT/101MNV01").
- Added the ability for the user to create custom sub-folder names (or use no sub-folders at all) when organizing their audio files on the MSD. By default, iWalkman copies audio files into sub-folders based upon the song's ArtistAlbum name. When using the iWalkman Preferences "Organize audio by category" setting, the user can now define a custom name for those sub-folders or use no name at all (or select from a pre-defined list of sub-folder names). See the iWalkman Help file for more information.
- Changed iWalkman so that the file conversions will now ONLY take place for those audio files that will actually be copied to the MSD (and not ALL of the audio files in the user-selected playlists as it was before).
- Fixed a problem where iWalkman wouldn't properly recognize audio file formats in non-English language versions of iTunes. File format support (and encoder support) in iWalkman is now completely independent of the language version of iTunes that the user has installed on their system.
- Updated Help file to reflect program changes. |
