Agreed,..... I think the hbh-610 is a step down from the hbh-608. With the 608, i had minimial problems and people coud hear me clearly and vice versa. The only problem i experienced was excessive crackle if the phone was not in sight of the headset (i.e phone in pocket).

I foolishly swapped it for the hbh-610 which i regret now. Whilst i can hear people cleary, they complain that they cannot hear me well, especialy when i am driving. Even when i'm stationary, i get complaints as though i am in a tunnel...... what is going on here??

Also, what is the point of BTv2. Where are the improvements this is supposed to bring... eh?

I have just upgraded my D750i to R1N035, but I still get regular disconnects on my HBH-610.

The HBH-608 is fine - arrgghh

007 - my HBH-610 works fine with: P910, R520m, a number of T39m's & T630's, T610, half a dozen T68i's.

Doesn't work too well with: K750i, W550i, W800i, W900, P990...

Spot the difference! (For those who can't, it works okay with BT 1.1 & BT 1.2 devices, and not too well with BT 2.0 devices... )

Happy,
I concurr with your findings......
I even went into CPW Milton Keynes to 'argue' this point with them... they said hell what do you expect from BT devices...... but they did change my headset for me 3 times.... which was nice of them
1. HS850
2. HBH-608
3. HBH-610
(see a trend)

I reckon all headsets were fine... it's just the BT 2 implementation on the phones which is buggy..... but i'm on R1N and so far it all seems stable with the occasional lockup.

One thing is the hbh-610 will not pair with multiple devices... this is really annoying....

Slightly OT:
Happy, i am trying to record my voice commands thru the headset. Have you had any success in doing this? I mean how does one keep a constant on connection between the headset and the phone?

I've not experienced that problem with pairing. Managed to get my HBH-610 paired to my K750i, P910 and Z800.

I think what james007bond means is the following:
  • Pair 610 with K750i, check to see its working.
  • Turn off BT from K750i, disconnecting headset
  • Now pair 610 with 2nd phone (e.g. T630)
  • Test, and turn off BT from 2nd phone
  • Now try to reconnect 610 with K750i.
It just refuses to connect. If you try to connect via "My Devices", you'll get a "Bluetooth Connection failed" message.

I got somewhat of a workaround with the pairing issue.

If you want to connect the headset to another device, just hold volume up & down key to get it to pairing mode, then select to connect from the device.

This is somewhat faster than having to remove the device from the pairing list, and try to repair again and repeat the step if you switch the headset to another device.

SE should really fix this though.

Happy.... yup this is what I meant ...

I'm gonna stop ranting about this now....

Life is too short, especially after today when I was hurtling around Silverstone in a Ferrari..... I suddenly thought to myself whilst hurtling down Hanger Straight .... who needs BT v2.0 when BT 1.1 and 1.2 works fine

But seriously though, I'm wondering, whether we can flash these headsets..... perhaps thru SE service centres themselves... I mean they must know of these problems ... surely? I mean that's what ... ahem... a R&D and QA dept is all about...

Update to my original HBH-610 posting...

Since stuffing R1N035 on my O2-branded K750i phone, the disconnection issue has almost disappeared - it's only occurred once.

However, I still think the HBH-608 is a better buy than the HBH-610. ... Now if only I can find someone to buy my HBH-660 & HBH-662 headsets ...

happycheesecake - in another post you said you were testing another, yet to be released firmware (T1Q065 ) that was very good for bluetooth stability - will this ever see the light of day?

Interesting this thread.

I was in Finland and tried to purchase an HBH-610. They were out. I asked did they sell out and was simply told that they were out. When pressed a bit harder, it appears that there might be a few problems with the HBH-610. I can not confirm this, however, the local SE partner recommended that I purchase a Plantronics 640, and I must say that it is pretty cool the way it works. I like it better than any other SE headset that I have ever had.

N82(YES), iPhone 3G, Shure es530, Nikon D300, more stuff. No more SE stuff, why am I still here?

Don't laugh but I am using a z800i. I plan to get a Nokia 9300 as I need a PDA type device and I can not go back to the SE P9xx series again. I do not like the touch screens. So work will be a Nokia and play will be my trusty old SE. I will get the W900 when it comes out for sure.

Ah, OK, thanks sapporobaby. I was hoping you had a w800i on R1L firmware - like me! My HBH-610 is OK, but I'm always looking for the ultimate BT headset! If the Plantronics worked well on a w800i on R1L, I'd have a workaround until a stable firmware emerges...
