W800/K750 users: How often do you charge your phone? |

When i got my 750 the guy in the store told me not to charge it overnight, but give it "2 to 3 hour bursts" as charging overnight damages the battery. |

Where at the vodafone shop yesterday and listening to the staff telling a lady to charge her new phone for 14 hours(!) cuz it was new. The lady said she heard that you dont need that 14 hours anymore, cuz batterys got better , doesnt matter said that incompetent vodaf**ker, you have to charge a new phone for 14 hours or more! They have told me exactly the same when i was doing a mistake and bought a phone from vodafonestores. They are so incompetent! How many years was it when you needed to charge your phone for 14 hours the first time? |

That's funny, it's the old nickel cadmium and nickel media hydride that need the longer initial charge...
The link to the battery university site (earlier in this thread) is a very informative site - http://www.batteryuniversity.com/partone-12.htm
Basically the 1st charge on a li-ion is no different to the 50th, in length or capacity gained. Li-ion chargers turn off when the battery is full, as an overcharge would damage the battery, and running a li-ion flat actually damages the battery also.

A thought is this quote from the batter university:
"Neither does a full discharge improve the capacity of a faded pack. However, a full discharge/charge will reset the digital circuit of a 'smart' battery to improve the state-of-charge estimation"
It says laptops use smart batteries, do the SE mobile phones use them?
My K608i gives estimation in %, which from this thread so does the K750i - or are smart batteries ones that give remaining time such as info lithium...
I think I may have answered my question with reference to my info lithium batteries comment.

Most li batts have low voltage protection and will shut off automatically before damage occurs. Li batt chargers stop charging when batt is full. U can leave on all night without risk, but can also charge up within an hour or two.

I've heard that they aren't. Even a non-smart batteries available charge can be estimated. |

Everynight before i go to bed, always means the phoen is fully charged and it wont run out on me unexpectedly.
I use the walkman on my w800 most of the day so the battery takes quite a hit sometimes

If I just use it for calls/texts/organiser/pic taking it usually lasts me 4 days at least. A bit less if I use the radio/MP3 player/games/video recorder in that time. Rarely wait for the low battery warning and start charging when it gets below 10%.

Now that I have a desktop stand, my phone is getting charged for most of the day and overnight. I am not sure if it does more harm than good, but it is handy.

If it's lithium, and as long as the charger isn't faulty, it won't overcharge. If it doesn't overcharge, then it won't affect the lifecycle of the battery.
For example if you charge the batt all night, it will actually only charge long enough to top up the battery, after which the charger will cut out. So if the batt needs half an hour charge, it will make no difference to the battery life cycle if you leave it on the charger all night or just for half an hour. (since in either case it is only being charged for the half hour)
However since batteries lose charge slowly when not in use, if you leave the phone on the charger when not in use for more than a day, it will be fully topped up when you take it off the charger. This means every few hours or so the charge circuit will kick in for a minute or two and top up the battery. This is different to a trickle charge, which would overcharge a lithium battery.
