the wirelessmonkey review says it comes with 128mb card. I wonder which is right. £209 payg is very cheap though especially compared to the W800i which at its cheapest is £305 (expansys)

From the Apple ROKR FAQ: http://www.apple.com/itunes/mobile/faq/
How much flash storage will I need to store songs on my phone?
Most ROKR E1 phones will come bundled with 512 MB flash cards, which allows you to store up to 100 average-length songs. If your phone doesn’t come with a 512 MB card, you will need 128MB of available flash storage space to store 25 average-length songs on your phone. To store 50 average-length songs on your phone, you will need 256MB of available flash storage."
"Cingular stores in the U.S. will have the ROKR E1 available pre-upgraded to 100 songs."
So, I guess it depends on what the networks decide to supply with it.

It only holds 100 songs no matter the memory card?
Sorry but the phone looks ugly, more like a windows mobile device (which would make sense if it was windows mobile, doesn't look to be however)
So I'm guessing after all is said and done the big deal of the phone is using itunes as a player and source to download from the itunes store? (thus presumably supporting their drm format?) I don't know why but that just doesn't seem like a big deal..
Apple is "going to do something pretty bold," he said. Apple is "replacing it with something new."
Actually he should have said apple is going to do something OLD. That's pretty much the history of apple in that one statement.
The changes to iTunes sound good, but will it only support moto's for syncing.. If they manage to branch out and support others, nokia, se etc then hey winner for itunes lovers.
* edit: oops unclosed tags are the devil!

The Apple is "going to do something pretty bold," he said. Apple is "replacing it with something new." comment referred to replacing the iPod mini line with the iPod nano line, not the ROKR phone.
This phone is just a bog-standard Motorola with a bit of music playback software embedded that's been supplied by Apple. It's pretty obvious Apple has had nothing to do with the design of the phone itself.
And I bet Apple insisted on the 100 song limit to prevent sales being taken away from its own iPods. No serious music listener would consider this phone over an iPod.

I know perfectly well what that comment referred to Jools, hence my comment.

Sorry, I'm not quite following you! You were talking about the ROKR phone, then quoted a comment referring to the iPod. Are you saying that what they've done with the phone should be described as "something OLD" or what they've done with the iPod nano?
I'd agree that the ROKR phone is nothing to get excited about. But I think the new iPod nano is quite something. No one else has got such features in such a thin/small form-factor, at least I'm not aware of any other 2gb or 4gb solid-state music players with colour screen yet.
"...something OLD. That's pretty much the history of apple in that one statement.". Again, not quite sure what you're getting at... you think Apple only ever releases stuff that's old?

just addding my 2 cents... i pretty much agree with everyone else... the ROKR is alright... but nothing compared with the w800i. I mean, its alright, and its cool kinda, but nothing too special, but the nano is cool. I saw it on TV, and they said there were 2 kinds of nanos, but never said what the difference is... maybe someone said it here, and i just didnt see it?

The 2 different nano's are 2GB and 4GB versions.
