I started this thread, so thought I should come back and report on my experience:

I got a reasonable retentions deal today. Was on the Anytime 200 tarrif (£30 /month), monthly spend was anywhere between £5 and £25 over the line rental.

Free W800i (when stock comes back in)
500 x-net anytime minutes
60 texts for 3 months, then 30 texts for the next 3 months

£25 /month on a 12 month contract

Not as great as I was hoping for (I was ideally wanting a bigger reduction in line rental) .... but not too bad either, all things considered.

I'm on Talk 120, and now out of contract. I want to try for a W800. What is this 500x tarrif?

barrowfordred, it seems the 500 x-net anytime tarrif is a 'secret' Orange OVP tarrif to match 3 called Select 500, it seems to be offered to some people through retentions.

When asked why I wanted my PAC code the first thing I mentioned was that I had recieved a call from 3 offering me 500 xnet + 100 texts for 18 quid a month...... they then said ok we can offer you 500 xnet and 100 texts for £15 for 6 months then £30 after that.....I got a bit excited then asked if it was a 12 month contract and was told it was only on an 18 month one.

I asked what the best deal they could do me on a 12 month contract was and was then offered the above (i.e fewer texts, slightly higher overall line rental for the year - £25 pm vs. £22.50) - from there I was asked which handset and there was no trouble at all getting the W800i free... I just need to wait till it comes in. I phoned later to double check that a note had been put on my account with the retentions offer.... and it was confirmed that I'm on the waiting list and will get a call when the handset comes in.

I'm still a little disappointed that I couldn't swing some more texts, or at least 20 texts per month for the whole year (that would do me just fine).... but when I phoned up later the rep was having none of it... at least I tried

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Argh, I don't know whether the CS reps just spit out any old dates when you make an enquiry, but I just phoned up and was told they're expecting the W800i in around 3 weeks.

Anyone been told differently by Orange recently?

when was this?

It seems a bit strange that they would mention free texts for 18 months if the contract was only 12 months.

I've still not tried. I can't decide whether to upgrade my C500 for a C550 or a W800.
