i think it is just luck though i used to work in an electrical shop any thing form tvs to dvd players to phones can go wrong at any time |

I still have the Sony Glasstron (a headmountable personal LCD giving a 53 inch screen illusion). Great innovation, you'd say since it was back in last century. But it went out of production within a year or so of launch ! LG took on the idea & launched a little enhanced similar product at 60% the price ! People said Great Value.. While some others like me who took Glasstron said crap service (out of prod, so no servicing now). So those who charge for Brand/Goodwill (which I call Peace of Mind) need to swim with the waves and be on a lookout of what Others are doing. Korean Cheabols like Samsung, LG were downmarket like China till recently. But new kids learn fast..

.I have found Sony to be costlier than similar featured products from Competitors (and I have used or still use- Discman, Walkman, Projection TV, VCR, LP/CD Combo, Glasstron ,Sony phones, SE phones, Floppy disks :P ) mostly without problems. I shudder at the Made in China tag irrespetive of which Brand/ Company it is. So I wouldn't say they make "crappy" products, as our dear Friend/s put. Others are pulling the rug from under their feet. And the others (China, Korea, Latin America combo) are learning from the old Corporations to f**k them. Remember Japan, Germany vapourised by the Allied Forces? And what did we have later... pride of the Empire, Rolls Royce (one of their divisions) taken over by a German Company... Scarey ehh? Sorry, if I offended anybody or was too opiniated. I am still more comfy with a Sony and ready to give them yet another go... might get my Dad to take a Vaio.. any suggestions people, which one? I would need a juicy nVidia/ ATI, BT, WiFi and 6-in-1 card reader.

Can we consider that Sony doesn't make everything they sell? They often rebadge cheaper products from China/Taiwan to sell at different pricing points and for different markets - like cheap portable TVs, DVD players and VCRs (Does Sony still make any VCSs of their own?). With a company of its size, you can't expect everything to be perfect.
I would however say that in my experience, their televisions over the years haven't been anything special (as if you're paying more for the name than anything else).
Let's also consider that Sony Ericsson is a separate company!

Thats rite Jonathan, SE & Sony are different Companies. However, your earlier point~ its not really rebadging. I mean others copy Sony, NOT the other way round. Sorry if my post had bad english. IBM monitors, many of Unilevers' products aren't made by THOSE companies itself. Rather outsourced to other Cos./ regions for cost effectiveness or other strategic reasons. Though the Company may want them to follow certain Procedures, Standards... it may not happen in reality. China- am scared of coz I had many diff· experiences. Like TWO Seagate Barracuda's~ One of Singapore make & other I couldn't get but of Chinese make. In same PC (used in RAID), guess which developed Bad Sectors !

The author of this post refers to a big company as being responsible for poor workmanship. The same could be said of most of our governments, imho... Just a thought...

Sony is a big company turning out massive amounts of a very long line of products, some will therefore be faulty or even badly designed like any other company. The important factor here is Support generally well known and respected comapnies offer good support that is how they became well respected. So really IMHO people here should be focussing on how good sony (and SE) support services are. |
