When we showed that Sony came up with the general idea, he immediately switch to "hey, Samsung copied LG's shit and we must all embrace each other's creation". Poor ppl.

Eh? Come again? Samsung copied LG's shit? Where did I say that?
In actual fact, don't bother, you may just throw in more rubbish.

I know exactly what you're talking about, Samsung has implemented something like that in the Note10.1, and some Samsung GS and Note custom ROMs have it. Saying its a rip off WRT LG isn't right though, LG added their own customizations as you've pointed out and have taken it their own way, isn't that how the entire industry works? Someone creates something and others come in and create similar things with diff implementations, if not, then EVERY Android is a iPhone rip-off.

What does pop up video and what the tablet s brought have to do with anything??? You are now mixing two different points. The Tablet S arrived in August right? So did the Note2, so nobody really "ripped off" anybody. You need to get over this.

Comeon people let's keep this thread on topic, with all due respect to everyone.
let's not breed hatred here, this is a tech community where we gather to discuss tech related stuffs, let's not make this like what Apple and Macintosh fans used to be before they became one.

Only question is the s800 powerful enough to handle 10-bit encoded 1080p mkv's? Because 10-bit and triluminous would be perfect combination although I'm perfectly fine with the usual 8 bit videos, I do have a couple of 10-bit videos and it would be nice if the s800 can play it so I don't have to re-encode.

I think it's the lack of dedicated video decoding engine that hampers the performance of even the top of the line SoCs when working with 10Bit videos. in particular Qualcomm should partner with AMD in developing their very own UVD decoder engine for Snapdragon chipsets. I still have my old backup PC with ancient HD4200 GPU, and yet it plays any video formats I throw into it, 10Bit shows included, unless I enforce smooth video playback on the Catalyst control panel which will definitely choke it to death

Please stop the individual attacks. Doesn't look good at all. This is a rumor thread to discuss upcoming Xperia devices and the reason we discuss in the first place is we all love Sony smartphones or are at least interested in them. That is a uniting factor, it's silly to fight amongst ourselves this way just because of a troll post

Well as far as I know, currently there is no hardware solution for 10 bit, which is why everything falls back to software decoding mode which chokes mobile processors to death , I am hoping the s800 is fast enough to decode it even on software decoding.
If AMD would develop APU's for mobile sector with those decoders on, I think that would be great.

For smartphones with removable battery it would be a good idea to also include a small internal battery and use it when you want to change the decharged battery with a charged one. This way you can change the battery without needing to turn it off.

@reeflotz
Exactly, I don't know why but nvidia should've had the upper hand with this, their HW video decoders are on par with AMD's and their Tegra chips are developed in parallel with their GeForce. the kepler based tegra should have a proper HW decoder and should outperform their old VP3 decoder found on the ancient nvidia ION GPU.
@MartenR:
Great insight there mate suddenly I remember my old T610 which had a dedicated battery that keeps the clock ticking even with the main battery removed. that was one selling point among 's over Nokia smartphones back in the days

kind of like a Computer UPS? but inside the phone? Although with most waterproof Sony phones, now have non removable battery, to prevent gaskets from failing due to usage. So far the only Sony devices which have good waterproofing are their compact cameras, I have no idea about how good the waterproofing on ZU and ZR is yet, hopefully honami does end up with ip rating the same as ZU or better because 1m is only around 3.28 feet, most swimming pools are 6 feet deep.

Next year Sony should strive at developing weatherproof smartphones to up their level. with this they can rekindle the reputation they used to have for having tough products that lasts long time regardless of abuse that they get from their user
