But it has exposure compensation, from what i know, and that can substitute spot photomometry in certain situations

S700 had that too + spot photomometry. No reason to remove spot photomometry.

I agree with that Arne...it´s a step backwards...but i´m sure that can be adressed in a new firmware

Are there any hardware related bugs identified so far? Or are there only firmware related ones?

Thanks in advance!

@ synagence, i think SE removed the spot photometry because they believed the auto focus performed the same job, therefore making the feature unnecessary.

These are two different things. Spot photometry deals with how exposure is measured and has nothing to do with the focus.

Oh but it does Arne, here is a quote from my Sony Cybershot manual which explains it..

Spot light-metering (Spot Photometry)

When there is backlight, or the background of the subject provides a very high contrast, you can adjust the focus to that most appropriate for your subject. You can aim at a particular point, and meter the light to adjust the focus for that point.

In other words, you use spot photometry to measure light which in turn affects the overall focus. Since the S700i did not have auto focus, the less reliable way would have been to use spot photometry alone.

The K750i measures light, contrast and exposure levels automatically unless you overide them using white balance, and because the K750i has auto focus which does a great job anyway, in my opinion, SE would have presumed spot photometry was not needed and removed it. They probably didnt want to make the camera too much like a real Cybershot and over complicate it for the average user.

@etaab

only if K750 uses a passive AF could this matter since in such case the contrast of the picture is of great importance. For active AF, which is used in most point and shoot cameras, this has no affect att all. That's where the difference may be between a CyberShot camera and K750. But I realy don't know what type of AF K750 uses.

Well, since the K750i has no infra-red emitter i doubt it has an active AF system.

For all we know, the K750i could possibly use passive AF and not need the spot meter because the lens does move.

At least i reckon it moves, whenever i use AF to take pictures i certainly feel movement come from within the phone.

The MobileBurn review indicated call audio, as the K750's weakness.

What do you all think?

Is this a good time to buy a K750i? I would most likely be getting it next week. I am in NYC, so there are no Service Centers nearby, and it would be a bit of a pain to deal with warranty or fw upgrades.

I'll be getting the phone from MyWorldPhone.com
