Sony Ericsson 8.1MP C905 Discussion (Shiho) |

Sure, everything is possible. But to give a device this feature will effect the size negative. Its just not realistic. And to be honest, who needs the zoom function for the price of the extra volume this will take?

Good to see the discussion still going strong despite the onslaught of the INNOV8 .

Optical Zoom and Xenon Flash is one problem that Sony needs to solved.
Did you know that SO905iCS has Optical Zoom + LED Flash?
Then, did you realize that C905 has Xenon Flash without Optical Zoom?
Xenon Flash needs one or two big capacitor that provide the power to light on the flash (Space-Eater.)
Optical Zoom by Sony are using folded-lens design (again, Space-Eater).
If Xenon Flash and Optical Zoom incorporated in C905, it would be too bulky. That's the reason SE didn't do that!
Let's see how they fix this problems. Technology will answer

well like all electronic components the big capacitors get smaller and smaller. If you look at resistors they have come from 1cm long 5mm wide cylinders to a rectangle about 1mm*3mm and transistors have become so small they are only one molecule wide!

Err...
Sure Innov8 beats C905 in a specwise...
But I thought both of these phone didn't come to straight competition. These are the reason:
1. Innov8 are smartphones, using Symbian OS.
2. More expensive (about 100-200 euros difference.)
3. It lacks Xenon Flash.
So we can safely conclude that both of these phone targeted to different audience...
For SE fanboy who using A100 and A200 phone a lot, C905 is still promising. They can live up without 16GB internal mem, bigger screen, Symbian and DivX playback with DSP chip.
At least, for myself, I can compromise that difference. Price difference means a lot for me
Furthermore, SonyEricsson logo printed on the back of the phone means everything for them. That's what I called a branding power
But for those who using N95 or Symbian phone before, Innov8 could be their perfect successor.
See my point? In my opinion, both of these phone would sells a lot, especially if Nokia doesn't release a competitive phone.
But I thought Nokia wouldn't announce 8MP phone soon, unless they want to ruins their N96 flagship selling that the ironic thing is, not released until now.

i pray to God that never put optical zoom on their new Cybershoots phones.
to bulky, to heavy, and worse of all, TOTALY CRAPPY PICTURE-QUALITY WHEN YOU USE THE DAMN THING.
to get good, sharp quality with a real optical zoom, you NEED bigger, better high-quality lenses, thats all. (and that dosent fit inside a cell phone if you dont want it THICK)
hell, even not my fathers (expensive) digi cam, produce clear/sharp zoom pictures, (at 2-3 x Optical zoom).......

I agree. Before camphone makers use larger lenses, optical zoom is a bad idea. Optical zoom means longer focal length and narrower field of view and this means less light reaching the sensor. With the lens on camphones already being extremely small, optical zoom makes something that's bad even worse: less light = more noise = stronger noise reduction = less detail.

Again, less light means either longer exposure times or higher ISO. Longer exposure means blurry photos when shooting handheld. Higher ISO results in more noise again.

The problem is, the only thing you can really compare these two on is the Camera. As everyone has painstakingly pointed out, they are two VERY different types of device. INNOV8 is an Smartphone, C905 a feature phone.
However I quote Mobile Review:
"Camera UI speed
The i8510's camera isn't particularly speedy - it takes around 2-4 seconds to focus and the whole shooting sequence takes roughly 8 seconds (from the moment it starts focusing). For example some smartphones and communicators will let you take two shots during the same times pan, while most digital cameras will focus, process and render all photos almost momentarily."
8 seconds to take a picture?!!! That's so slow nowadays you might as well sit there and DRAW the picture yourself lol.
INNOV8 seems to have very good quality of pics, but the C905 takes instant pics and that's what a camera should do. On that basis alone the INNOV8 falls flat on it's backside. It's just TOO slow.
By the time you've turned on the camera, focused and pressed the shutter, the Dog has moved and is no longer being cute.

marty there you said something really interesting.
Sonyericsson is kings of fast focus, but more important their Cybershoots have very accurate focus. (it focus very fast & it gets nearly allways sharp right away).
who dont rememeber first N95...he he. (took ages for the camera to focus. you nearly felt a sleep before the camera had produce a picture)...
if C905 have the same accurate & super fast focus as example C902 im pleased

I agree with this - 100%!!! And I think the C905 will have such fast focusing. If put the proper hardware (mainly processor and heap size) behind that specifications (camera, platform and etc...) it will be more than a regular camera phone. It may be one of the best multimedia devices on the market ever...
