thanks Tail
and whats the latest version. I did an update when i first got the phone a week ago, seus said it was up to date, but had the continue any way option. So of course i continued. It took a very long time to do the update, the software file must have been very large.....
whats the latest firmware version btw?
thanks |

Well people I have good news and some not so good news.
Phone: R9EA001 Has been release by SE and should be now ava. However currenlty its not ava every where, so dont go rushing down to the shops or trying the update service. I have heard many rumours that it may be released in the next 2 weeks on SEUS, But again these are not concrete facts.
Any way this is what one person has said about the new firmware
"The first impression is that the UI is 100 times faster. Switching between screens, menus, apps is INSTANT, without any delay. It seems that the transitions are simply disabled by default but I couldn't find any setting to switch them on/off. I had no time to play with it yet but I'll test it today and I'll post here later today or tomorrow if I find anything new"
** 2nd update ***
Well, the new Communicator was indeed much more important and interesting experience than the new (unofficial) firmware for the P990. All I noticed so far is the faster UI (disabled transitions) and 17.5 MB free RAM on start (with no applications installed, no contacts, nothing running but Swiss Mgr Pro - without Swiss Mgr it's about 17,8 MB ). So it's indeed about 2-2,5 MB more than what I had previously but it's nothing exceptional...
I haven't experienced any crashes or KERN exec errors or any other problems so far but you know that it doesn't happen all the time so it still requires more tests.
With Web browser running and My-Symbian Mobile site loaded in it, I have 10.8 MB free RAM left. With both the Web browser and Messaging (in SMS Inbox view) I have 8.9 MB left.
Closing all open apps using Swiss Mgr only gave 15 MB back so the device still leaks memory.
The most useful improvement is that the UI now feels really faaast compared to the previous firmware. Maybe it's also more stable as I haven't experienced any problems.
Well, that's it for now
** 3rd update **
Well, I can't see any other changes but the ones mentioned in my previous posts. The UI is definitely much faster thanks to disabled transitions, there's slightly more RAM and the device feels much more stable as no single error/freeze/reboot etc. happened since yesterday. But that's all you can see in just one day. Maybe there are much more hidden changes and improvements but I can't say it so soon.

Projekt has an "import from text" module, which would probably save your retyping, if you can export from your existing database to a simple text...

this must be the update for the seus program and not the firmware
the latest firmware is not available for public users... that is meant only for insiders of SE for testing purpose
so dont get excited now...
it will take some more time before we can have some fun

I made a comparison with the existing fw and here are results:
On the same conditions as the person above I got 15.7 MB free RAM on start, 8.9 MB free RAM with Web browser running My-Symbian site and 6.0 MB left with both Web browser and Messanging (in SMS Inbox view).
As he said we get 2MB more RAM on start. Opera seams requires the same amount as now and messanging some less amount of memory.
