K750 / W800 Firmware Overview |

I have tried to read through all 98 pages of this thread without success.
Can someone please explain to this simple soul why it is that I get this "Operator will not allow use of this service" respone when I try to upgrade my firmware? I have a new phone but it has the original firmware version.
I have an unbranded K750i on Vodafone UK. Many thanks. |

Hi Bob
Can you check what your CDA number is? (It's in the service menu, towards the bottom of the SW info page). I've just flashed mine to get rid of the Orange branding and it now doesn't work on SEUS despite me using the 'generic UK' CDA - when it was an Orange CDA it worked fine, but it doesn't seem to like the generic one. The list of which CDAs are and aren't accepted by SEUS seems to vary weekly/monthly (as SE can change it as they see fit).
Cheers

Same for me. Unbranded O2 phone about 10 weeks old. Can anyone help or explain? Thanks |

@MnM - could you check what your CDA is too? It seems that SEUS might not be accepting the generic (unbranded) UK CDA just now, and only allowing in the branded phones (e.g., Orange, Voda, etc.). Don't know why this would be the case but it seems too coincidental that lots of people with unbranded phone can't access the service.

I don't want to get anyone's hopes up. But perhaps Se are uploading a new (unbranded) firmware version? The fact that branded phones are still accepted would then be explained by the extra time it takes for branding and testing/approving the branded versions (thus released on a later date).
I know, I know... wishfull thinking... perhaps

Yep, that's the same CDA as I'm using - it's the generic one for the UK (ie for unbranded phones). For some reason it seems that SEUS currently isn't working with this, only with branded ones (I like dietbrand's idea that it's due to a new firmware version being imminent but sadly that's probably not the case and I don't know what the real reason is).
Is anyone with an unbranded UK phone able to use SEUS currently?

After the GPRS problems with R1J on O2 - I am very cautious of any upgrade. R1L may have bugs but don't all rush out on the 1st day...

I agree - will definitely hold back on any new firmware (when and if it arrives) for a few days at least. Of course that's assuming SEUS starts working again with generic handsets - otherwise I'll need to use DaVinci again, in which case it'll depend on whether it's worth the money or not (i.e. depends on how major any changes are). |

Improvement in menu speed, stability and the reinstatement of the video capture quality would be worth it.

bob that message means the phones is probably branded (does it have vodafone live button? if so it is branded).
Not all branded phones are locked to the operator (one good thing about vodafone). I get that same error when attempting to update my voda live K700, but my Optus branded k750 can update no worries.
Vodafone HATE letting you update your phone - with the K700 it is only possible to update at the service centre (with a special vodafone firmware) not on SEUS. I suspect K750 the same.
However this issue of firmware update is separate to the issue of branding - branding is in the customisation file that SEUS doesn't touch. However, voda have an agreement with SE to not allow voda firmware handsets to be updated online - atleast true up to the K700.... |

@max_wedge - doesn't that CDA that Bob provided (CDA 102338/38 R6A) implay that it's not branded? Certainly whenever it's been mentioned earlier in this thread or the 'K750i debranding possible' one it's always corresponded to a phone being unbranded.
