@ Hobbster,
The meal at Silver Lake Spur at Lakeside Shopping Centre came to £31.95. (approx R450).
That order consisted of:
1. Surf n' Turf
2. Mushroom Burger
3. 2x hot chocolates
4. 1x Budweiser beer

...To give you guys an example of some of the costs of living here, this is what we pay roughly a month:

Mortgage: approx £1100 a month

(That's for a 3 bedroom detached house in a good area close to London!)

Life Insurance (complete) £100 a month

Building and Contents Insurance £40 a month

Gas: approx £50 a month (in Winter months)

Council Tax (rates): approx £140 a month

Electricity: approx £40 a month

Sky Digital: £21 for the Family Package a month

Broadband: £16 a month

Telephone landline rental: £11 a month

Petrol: just under 90p (approx R12.00) per litre for 95 unleaded!

Compare the cost of a meal at Spur to the figures quoted above, lads, and you'll see the picture

Ya, fortunately the gas and electricity are now more than £10 cheaper a month with the new supplier, and unlimited broadband only £10 now after I threatened to leave AOL and take up Sky's special offer for the same money.
And then petrol tips the £1 (approx R14) a litre mark for 95 unleaded...

That's a sweet deal you've got there, mfowethu! It's something in which i believe, the practice of speaking up and letting a service provider/company/store know when you're unhappy with them, or when you can get a better deal elsewhere. It's something which South Africans don't do often enough, imho. Bugger this mentality of simply rolling over and accepting everything; what does suck is when consumers become abusive towards staff, that's a big no-no. Being diplomatic gets you soooo much further, in my experience.

Gucci, make a mental note of these words-> Matric Rage... You'll thank me next year December if you get yourself down to Plett after completing your finals it's THE biggest party ever, each and every year, not to be missed!

Totally agree! You can get your point across without transforming into a pielkop. A thing called 'tact', as we know, is a very powerful weapon.

Hi Jojo!

Yeah, I remember that race! That's Max Biaggi, who somehow wheelied past the vertical '12 o' clock mark' , then applied pressure on the back brake JUST before that animal of a 500 2-stroke GP bike flipped. Incredible!

Will check in later again; we're watching The Bourne Ultimatum now...can't wait! Now let's me go switch on that active subwoofer et al and cause a few rumbles around the immediate area, LOL.

You're welcome Jojo

I read an interesting article in Newsday.com this morning. Seems that some Jewish youngsters were on the receiving end of a gang beating when a Muslim Good Samaritan came to their aid. I wish more people would follow his example.

Yup, damn good movie.

Blackadder Goes Forth is now showing (again) on one of the Sky channels. I'm so tired but I always enjoy watching this classic ol' series. Rowan Atkinson, Steven Fry et al are brilliant as usual.

Anywayz, it's very late. Time to switch off.

G'night, ya'll.
