@ Hobbster n' Jojo,
Herewith a few pics of the rat bike, taken with the P1i in less than perfect conditions, as you an see. A great 'canvas' of a rat or survival bike to start building on further, especially with the delightful 2 fire extinguishers welded together to make the tank, crazy bars, etc.
..and here's a few pics of items from aircraft, bought cheap off eBay, that will form the new instruments cluster box, air speed indicator (Mach 1.3 LOL) and fuel tank info...:
First pic taken with a friend's 6230. Crappy, but you can read the dials. Comes off a '60's British jet fighter:
Aircraft bomb bay panel, which will be the new housing for the instruments. Check out those labels, LOL.... not sure why the one 'push' button would be needed for most of us virile okes..LOL
WW2 aircraft fuel tank info :
Sigh, now where did I see that hand grenade which I'm sure I can turn into a brake fluid master cylinder reservoir, or those welded chain pieces for rear-view mirror stems...LOL, I'd better stop now or I'm gonna get no sleep if my imagination keeps running wild like this...

@ Gucci,
LOL, ya I'm gonna have fun with adding The Wanqa Touch to the monstrosity.
Gucci, methinks you n' JC et al should submit a smallish pic like the ones on the thread's first page, plus a short profile of yourselves to Da Brixsta, either by PM or email him. You guys have really been great, consistent contributors and have already added much to this thread; you deserve to be included in that 'rogues' gallery'.
@ Hobbster,
You're on the right track, matey. 'Survival bikes' are deliberately styled to appear asif they're the remnants of a post-nuclear war aftermath, a mad-max-esque type appeal. But it's such a mechanical and tactile, creative artform to do it well, and I feed on the originality and creativity that it requires.
'Rat bikes' is a more wider term for such off-beat motorbikes, but in the true meaning rat bikes are usually bikes that are somehow kept running by slapping on any bits and pieces to keep it running. (perhaps not too different from some E20 minibus taxis around CT...)
These bikes are almost all painted in matt black to suit the genre; ie. deliberately no bling.
When I was in SA, the last one I built, I painted it with 'Durabak', a black rubberised paint in SA used for lining the back of bakkies.... such texture.
Back to the phone stuff, the Nokia 5310 is now selling for 99.95 (approx R1400).
Gee, I'd rather get the older but much higher-specced N73 for that money...

@ Hobbs
its great!we drove to Knysna today realy great place we were at the Waterfront.
Whats killing all of it is that it seems like some little grains of sea sand have made themselvs "comfy" in my N80 and are causing problems, the Camera doesn't want to work now, the Flash is also buggerd, and so is the sliding mechanisim it keeps getting stuck halfway when i slide down the screen. . . .OH WELL anyway il have to live with it for now.
@ Wanqa and Kryptik
Thanx boet, think i will as soon as i find a good pic of me lol!

Right, The Wanqas arrive in CT on Wednesday 30th July. Booked the tickets today. Best price I could get, after ages of phoning around, is 599 each (approx R8400 each...).
Then travel along the coast a week later, stopping at Plett, J-Bay, PE and then of course EL. Fly to Jozi on the 19th, visit friends there until 25 August and then fly back that night.
Can't wait!

Wanqa likes the look of the new Samsung F250. Pity the specs are quite lame...

@ Jojo,
The bike cost me 335 (approx US$650). It has to be registered and insured if I want to ride it, even if it's a bike from the mid-to-late '80s.
Have a good week ahead, ya'll.
