The satio is closest to a perfect Symbian phone you can get. I dont know what people are moaning about.

A lot of the stuff on PlayNow for the Satio isn't actually for the Satio - hence a load of themes you could spend £5 on that are for ordinary SE handsets.

The many games may work if they're ordinary Java games, but I doubt they're designed for a touchscreen - and who wants to play them with the virtual joystick?

I hope the firmware updates come soon; I'm sick of the unexplained pausing when listening to music or watching films, even when there's NOTHING running in the background. A restart will fix it for a while, but one of the apps is clearly causing problems and I am not going to keep resetting the phone every week to sort it!

One thing I found today by chance; when playing music and on the standby screen - you can touch the display to create mini firework-like effects. Totally pointless, but kept me amused for a bit!

@jmcomms

The Satio I have is from 3_UK and it seems to be working perfectly with no restarts, pausing or lagging whatsover.

One thing that does annoy me a bit though is that when playing music through the headphones and a call comes through - the track is restarted from the beginning after the call ends.

I'm not experiencing any problems with music or video on it. Just watched a couple of two hour movies on it over the last couple of days without problems. Listen to music a few hours a day, too.

You can turn the particles off if you want, so it'll display the background picture instead.

Mizzle how is the battery life(how many days it lasts under your usage), and how is the loud speaker compared to the C905 ?

I'm a very heavy user, so it doesn't last much more than one and a half days, but with an average use you could probably get it up to 2 - 3 days. But yeah, I use WLAN a couple of hours a day, watch movies and listen to a couple of hours of radio or music on it + sending/receiving a few hundred text messages a day.

Loud speaker is a bit worse than the C905, I'd say. If not on par, then a bit worse.

@ jmcomms - i pretty much agree with many of your point in your very long post.

My reply is simple. Symbian is harder to use with touchscreen and isnt as good i agree, but then its still early days IMO for the OS. Im patient enough to watch it develop. Personally i dont have a problems with the contacts app, its almost a mirrored copy of what was is my N95. You can improve it by using the contacts tab on the standby screen if using SE's standby theme. My annoyance is with the other standby themes - they're useless so you're forced to use SE's (which is better anyway IMO).

I agree regarding the SMS, its always been a bit clunky until 3rd party apps gave S60 the function to have a conversation view. Where the web browser is concerned, again no issues with it from me, maybe ive not used an iPhone enough to realise its not up to 2009 standards ?

As for the geotagging, im confused, why does the phone need a network connection to use GPS ? is the GPS not usable if not assisted ?

I have no issues with T9 either, i find it better than none SE smartphones.

I fully agree though the OS could have been much more better. There are far too many bugs and things that need tweaking. I'll be giving it time because ive been in this situation before with other devices where it started off with some annoying problems but then came of age. Hell look at the iPhone of 2 years ago compared to its latest offerings since its OS updates.

It's needed the network connection for the assisted-GPS as you say, but if there's no connection then I don't really want to know about it (except perhaps the GPS logo that's red or crossed out or something). I hardly want to fire up the camera to take that shot, then have it saying 'Choose connection' pop up... then cancel it and it re-appears.

Meanwhile, what I wanted to take a photo of has gone.

It's slack programming that is a carry over of S60 from pre-touch, and the 5800 came out a year ago so I don't accept that it's still early days.

The web browser is rubbish - half the screen used up for icons (especially landscape view) when most things use smaller icons.. and menus and sub-menus are not what we want for a touchscreen interface. Take a look at Safari on the iPhone, Chrome on Android or Opera Mobile / Opera Mini to see different ways of making it simple and easy.

The S60 browser makes it hard to select things and its handling of multiple windows is crazy; and when you go back, it re-loads the page, which must keep network operators happy when billing per Kb!

If you don't really use all of these things on a phone, just want to make calls, send a few texts and enjoy the media functions, the Satio is fine. For anything else, it's a dinosaur.

Hi

A Couple of annoyances I’m having:

Geo- Tagging = Why is it there? Yes you can activate it, but yet there is no option to “view on the map”, ok I know people have said you can use PC software to view the data, but who actually does this? I loved this feature on my c905, as i could just use “view on map” to look at the data.

The GPS I am impressed with, Wayfinder on the c905 was pretty poor I always thought. I forgot my TomTom yesterday, and I found a restaurant nearest to me quite easily using the WisePilot on the Satio, it wasn’t that much worse than my TomTom, and to be honest if it didn’t have a TomTom i would quite happily use it all the time for Sat-Nav if it wasn’t a limited 30-day trial.
The Geo-tagging on my c905 was only flawed as it would take ages to get a signal, meaning alot of the time it would use the approximate network signal to calculate my position, as I would have taken the picture before it had the signal. The GPS on the Satio is lightening quick and gets a signal straight away, so this feature would work brilliantly I’m sure

Conversation view: Again, after using the C905, getting used to this feature and loving it, disappointed it’s not here, Yes i can use it , but I want it integrated into messages so it’s used all the time, not just as an afterthought if I decide to open the app up.

Smiley’s: not there, pretty basic flaw it would seem!

No recently texted list: Again, pretty basic feature not there. And quite annoying.

I know alot of people would say these are flaws of all Symbian phones, but this is supposed to have been customised by S.E, they have had plenty of time to adjust the software to implement these features. So why haven’t they?

Overall, I am impressed with the handset though and wouldn’t go back to my c905, just hope these problems can be sorted with updates.

is there someone who found a call recording software for Satio?

Total Call Recorder doesn not work on SAtio, do you know a software that works well with Satio?
Download FPC Bench a good benchmark/system info for your phone.
Download Pocket Inclinometer for your phone's accelerometer.

Why not install Free I-sms? and see if it works flawlessly.

Of course I have - but what can you do in full screen mode? Press the button to leave and then to get to the menu.

Have you noticed how the others will allow you to be in full screen mode all the time - and have OVERLAID icons (partially transparent or pop-up on demand) to access functions. Have you seen the latest NetFront browser on the Aino? Even that's better. And Opera Mini and the others.

Also, that icon that sits on the screen all the time is just lame; it's as if someone designed a full page mode as a 'damn, we forgot a full screen mode' last minute thing.

Is this your first Symbian 5th Ed (touch) device? If it was, then i don't know who's really lame....the phone or the person who's using it
