Of course its the same ha ha you make me laugh. Obviously you have to use the walkman in ear headphones not the rubbish ones you get with the P1 but audio quality is the same more or less. w960 is just boosted volume wise. There isnt any extra technology inside the W960 that seperates it from the P1 apart from 8gb of flash memory. If im wrong them tell me exactly what extra music enahancing technology is inside the W960 which makes it better than the P1 in terms of music? They are the same! |

I judge my ears like all people and w960i got a better music quality. volume boosted or not boosted, music ship included or not , i dont really care! what i really know that it give us a gr8 sound quality and better speakers than the p1i.

So your view = the truth
Sorry mate but facts normally = the truth and the fact is that music wise the w960 is the same as the p1 underneath apart from its volume being boosted and 8gb of memory. |

But some of use don't like the look of the P1i and I wanted a proper phone keypad not the alpha-numeric thing (I use Jot for text entry).
As to build quality, I tried the P1i when it first came out & wasn't impressed with design or build quality.
The W960i is one of those gadgets that make you smile, oozes quality & style. As for sound, its great if the P1i sounds as good as the W960i but then what makes a great music player is also the software (i.e. iPod) and here the Walkman player is a winner.
If you can get the Walkman player on your P1i with 8GB+ of storage & you like the design of the P1i then great. Still glad I waited for the W960i over the P1i as the upgrade from my P990i.
I'll give you the P1i having the better stylus though but quickly got used to the minimalist W960i stick. Not an issue really.

I just tried the two phones in sound quality. Not the same. The W960 sounds better to me, than the P1. I guess they have the same hardware for music playing, but the software makes the difference. Even the music player (Walkman) on the W960 looks cooooooool .
But I'm sure it will be possible to flash a P1 to W960, as in this forum we already saw news about it. |

Have I not read somewhere on the forum that the W960i actually has a dedicated music chip??

I have been tempted by the W960 but I cant understand how this is the 3rd UIQ device id be buying in 2 years and still it has the same version - 3.0..
Thats crap, its slow and joggy and nowhere near as smooth and fast as S60.
Ill hand it to the w960 for its 8gb flash memory and walkman interface but a better cam and improved wifi should have been there not to mention a newer version of UIQ. I suppose its cheap so thats a posative factor. |

Yeah its actually free on Vodafone with most contracts!
So even after all the whining I have done about Vodafone I may be staying with them for another 12 months!
I have the N95 at the mo but still use the W950 for TomTom and Music so I'm gonna replace the 2 with the W960i!
It may still be using the old technology but I can find my way around it better than the Nokia and I have all the accessories for here and I prefer TomTom with the touch screen so W960i it is!

I just wish they had put in a 3.5mm jack instead of that horrible SE adaptor. |

Hopefully A 3.5mm headphone and usb charging/data connection will be standard across all phones in the next few years as has been rumoured! the fact that when I plug my N95 into the usb lead on my PC it actually drains power at a great rate of knots as oppose to charging the device is shocking!!

So OLD SCHOOL
No problem as I use my DS970 & DS980 BT stereo headset. Stunning sound from both & when one runs out of battery I'm straight onto the other (just charge both each day )
Regarding charging via USB with the Nokia.
The W960i has no such problem. Last week I was connected to the PC purely by USB cable streaming music to my BT headsets all day & using the phone as a 3G connection for the PC and it maintained full battery all day!!!
Even had backlight set to permanently on so I could see album/artist info (but not visualisations as they are disabled streaming audio via BT)

I know that !! But 3.5mm IS old now & why be wired when you can use BT headsets, the latest of which can even take your own plugs (DS200/220 I think). The sound quality from the 970/980's are great & you would have to go high cost Shure type plugs to get better.
(PS. I wasn't saying 3.5mm is OLD SCHOOL compared to fastlink connector!! but to wireless BT)
