in fact sony lcd hdr should stay on screen. oled does not make much sense. I think the xperia xz1 screen is excellent. samsung model will make a soulless, just lower the upper parts are enough. I apologize for my bad ingilizce

OLED has its advantages but for me the XZ Premium LCD is the highest quality screen. I like Note 8 of course but 4K vs 2K, there is no contest. Samsungs can be adjusted if you don't like the fake vibrancy but a lot of people actually like that so let them be. Things like burn in are ultimatley down to quality of the panel, I've never heard any Samsung user complain about burn in while you see the Pixel 2 has a load of deficiencies. I have never seen anything that shows that OLED saves battery vs LCD in real world tests and it makes you wonder why people aren't able to squeeze much more out.
On a side note, I think the UI needs an overhaul because I find Oreo so inconsistent. I couldn't get a full black UI using Substratum so I now have a full white one which I'll accept because all my apps are similar. I hope an OLED Xperia would have a true black UI and I'd like some redesigning of menus etc. as some of the Substratum themes have little subtle changes that make the UI look so nice. Either make a change or allow for themers to change as much as possible. |

Well it's not the best example since it's old but my Note 4 had serious screen burn in on the lower part. And as you mentioned the battery saving is mostly on papers.no real life usage senario uses half black screen with only small part of it turned on.since most web pages are white the only saving is seen on video tests.

Just saw somewhere faithful that show specs of many phones.
It says S9 screen is 4096x 2160.
If it is true that would be first 4K oled.
Last year when this website posted specs of XZ1c , all was right except android 7.1.2 |

HILARIOUS... MahdiMTT actually made an account just to bitch at nodar...
Personally, I hope Sony stays LCD. OLEDs are nice and all, but there isn't a single mobile OLED out there that doesn't have some kind of blue or green tint at an angle, especially as the panel ages. Yes, even the samsung ones. The LG ones are even worse, as we saw with the pixel 2 XL issues. If sony goes OLED, they will be using LG panels based on recent news, which would mean we'd have Pixel2 XL type problems, potentially. I don't think sony can afford that kind of bad press especially if this is supposed to be "their year". Then again, they tend to say that every year.
If they go OLED, no matter where they get the panels, I hope their QC is much better than google's since I know for sure their customer service for replacements/exchanges will be no where near as good.
Only real benefit of OLED to me, is the possibilities of different layouts and configurations in terms of hardware in the phone. I wouldn't mind a thicker phone with a much larger battery. I find phones are a bit too thin these days. Add a few MMs for a few thousand MAHs. I don't think anybody will complain about that tradeoff.

We have been chatting about the " Pro" model for a good while.
A phone that might cost almost $1000.
I think the oled is possible.
New cpu/gpu, new design, second cam and bigger battery are not enough to raise price that much.
In many locations XZ Premium was cheaper than Z5.
Must be other stuff we dont know yet.
And that interview the SM guy says 4K oled would be coming soon.
If he was talking about IFA 2018 or MWC 2019 I dont think he would say that.
Nobody uses soon for what's coming in 6 months or 1 year.
